Liverpool are in ongoing talks to sign Anfield’s best player since Szoboszlai

Arne Slot has been replaced by Andoni Iraola at Liverpool, but FSG are still willing to make major changes in the summer transfer window, as they did last year.

However, the persuasive Reds will expect to see a more calculated and precise approach this time around, with last year’s scattergun strategy ending in Slott’s sacking after a disappointing Premier League title defence.

The hope and expectation is that Liverpool will have learned from their recent mistakes and now turn to the players who will correct the tactical imbalance and bring Liverpool back into title contention, at home and abroad.

Newcastle United’s move to sign Victor Munoz has been thwarted, while the Anfield club are still on the hunt for new players.

Liverpool are in talks to sign the Real Madrid star

Liverpool are looking to achieve their top goals with speed this summer, although the ongoing World Cup makes that difficult.

Nevertheless, Munoz has been added to Iraola’s squad, and the pursuit of RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande continues. In fact, Liverpool have never come close to signing the £100m winger, suggesting that personal terms have been agreed between Anfield and the Ivory Coast star, who is still only 19 years old.

However, Liverpool are not only looking forward to this summer. In midfield, the Reds left a lot to be desired last season, and something has to change before the 2026/27 campaign, otherwise Iraola will find he cannot mend the creases in the fabric of this Liverpool side, like his predecessor.

Bringing in a top-class midfielder will be easier said than done, but Liverpool have one of the best in the business in their ranks.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Real Madrid’s proposal to sign Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez may help Liverpool to sign Aurelien Tchouameni, who will not have the intention of playing second fiddle to Jose Mourinho.

Chouameni, 26, is a top player, and given recent developments in the Spanish capital, it’s interesting to note that Liverpool have been kept informed of his status ‘all summer’, with talks opening the door to a potential deal – Tchouameni is worth £70m.

It’s not all doom and gloom in the heart of Liverpool’s park. Dominik Szoboszlai, after all, won the Reds’ Player of the Year in style.

In Tchouameni, Liverpool could land their most impactful signing since the Hungarian was signed from Leipzig for £60m in 2023.

Why Tchouameni could be Liverpool’s best player since Szoboszlai

Described as “the best defensive midfielder in the world” by former team-mate Chema Andres, Tchouameni will certainly add physicality and energy to Liverpool’s engine room. Ryan Gravenberch is good and talented, but he is no Fabinho, and maybe Liverpool need a strong number six to get the club back into title contention.

Chouameni has what it takes to transform and guide Liverpool’s midfield for years to come. He appears to be putting to rest the injury problems that plagued him in his early years, while his defense and high quality on the ball suggest he could be a good chance to prove himself as one of the Premier League’s biggest stars.

Throughout his recent campaign for Los Blancos, Tchouameni completed 92% of his passes in different areas of midfield. He covered vast areas, with unparalleled athleticism.

In addition, the Les Bleus star won two tackles and five duels on average per game, winning 68% of his challenges.

To put it plainly, Mac Allister only won 45% of his duels in the Premier League last season.

Mac Allister came close to Szoboszlai, but fell hard on the way through the second season of Slot. Szboszlai, on the other hand, has started and established himself as the Merseysider’s talisman, and if he maintains that form alongside a group of top performers next year, he could lead the club to silverware.

With Tchouameni by his side, Iraola’s chances of achieving that would increase, and then some. Szoboszlai has been a notable signing for Liverpool, and he certainly takes the cake there in recent years.

However, Tchouameni may be talking about him. Not only is the Frenchman one of the most talented midfielders in the world, but his profile is exactly what the Anfield club are looking for, and he will make a huge difference.

Aurelien Tchouameni of Real Madrid, Gonzalo Garcia of Real Madrid, Jude Bellingham of Real Madrid, Dean Huijsen of Real Madrid and Alvaro Carreras of Real Madrid on the wall.

Whether Liverpool will get this one over the line remains to be seen. There are many variables at play, and Manchester United also have a vested interest.

But Tchouameni is the real deal, with enough quality to be the star of Liverpool’s show.
