Crystal Palace are now eyeing Kieran Mckenna as the rest of Frank is clear
Crystal Palace are now looking at another managerial option in Thomas Frank, who is “destined for the top”.
Glasner insists a lot of that comes from Johnson
While everyone in South London is focused on who can replace Oliver Glasner this summer, the Austrian remains focused on the rest of the season.
It’s been a tough time for the manager over the last few months. He lost Marc Guehi and watched as his side lost form in Europe and the Premier League. With two wins in their last 10 Premier League games after spending big in the January transfer window, Glasner and his signings have come under fire.
Meanwhile, Brennan Johnson took most of the criticism. Since his £47.5m signing, the Welshman has yet to score once in 12 appearances in all competitions.
Glasner insisted there is still more to come from the former Tottenham Hotspur boss, however, telling reporters: “There are a lot of good sides (to Johnson’s role). But I think he hasn’t found that consistency in his performance.
“There are always highlights, there are always different situations, but he would like to score as much as any attacking player.
“But I see his effort in training. He is a very good player, he has all the necessary skills. He has everything, and now it is to support him, to show this consistently every game, to restore his confidence, and he will be a big player for Crystal Palace all season.”
Crystal Palace’s new Wilfried Zaha could end Mateta’s career at Selhurst Park
Crystal Palace need to find new motivation as Oliver Glasner’s title-winning season threatens to come to an end.
The Palace boss fully believes Johnson’s goals will come, but the pressure will be on under a new manager in the summer – especially if that’s Frank.
The recently sacked Tottenham boss was the one who decided to sell the defender and now he could have an unwanted reunion on his hands unless the Eagles look elsewhere.
Crystal Palace are targeting Kieran McKenna
As reported by Caught Offside, Crystal Palace are now targeting Kieran McKenna.
The Ipswich Town manager attracted a lot of interest when he secured successive promotions from 2022 to 2024, before losing out to the Premier League. Now, with the Tractor Boys fighting for promotion again, he is on Palace’s radar.
If the Eagles are looking for someone like Frank, then McKenna is certainly an option. Like Dane, he is a young manager, who already has Premier League experience. And that experience can be a huge asset when you replace someone as important as Glasner.
Operating in a 4-2-3-1 formation, the Ipswich boss received plenty of praise at Portman Road.
Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony even told talkSPORT in 2024: “Then you got Ipswich in their style and it was an exciting game to watch and that’s what you want to see. I think (McKenna) is destined for the top.”
Whether it’s through Ipswich getting promoted or Crystal Palace signing Glasner, McKenna looks set to return to the Premier League.
