Wolves are now favorites to sign Silas Andersen ahead of Celtic and Rangers

The race for the “best” midfielder is heating up, with Wolverhampton Wanderers now favorites to secure his signature, despite interest from Celtic and Rangers.

Wolves are looking for a new midfielder amid uncertainty over Joao Gomes

Wolves’ relegation from the Premier League is yet to be confirmed, having picked up seven points from their last three games, but Rob Edwards has hit back at the suggestion that his side have improved in recent weeks due to lower expectations.

Edwards says: “I don’t feel that, I feel like we are pressuring them to do well, they should.”

However, having collected just 17 points this campaign, it is almost inevitable that the Old Gold will be playing Championship football next season, meaning it may be difficult to keep hold of some of their star players.

Joao Gomes is one of the players who have attracted interest from other places, with Serie A giants Napoli and Premier League rivals Manchester United, who need to bring in a replacement for Casemiro, among the players who could be strikers.

Should Gomes decide to move on, the Wanderers may need to make another move, and are now in a strong position to win the race for a sought-after midfielder.

Wolves are now in a good position to sign the “best” midfielder

According to a report by Football Insider, Wolves are now favorites to sign BK Hacken midfielder Silas Andersen, and believe he can play a major role in helping them to promotion to the Championship next season.

This comes despite Scottish rivals Rangers and Celtic also looking towards the 21-year-old, but the Old Gold’s parachute payment will help them ensure they come out on top.

Earlier this week it emerged that Celtic were the frontrunners in the race for the youngster, but now there is a new twist, and there are many indications that he could be included in Edwards’ squad.

Rob Edwards could be the next Vitinha for Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Scout Jacek Kulig is very fond of the Danish maestro, describing him as an “excellent” midfielder and “one of the most interesting midfielders in Scandinavia” last October.

In the 2025 Allsvenskan season, the midfielder averaged 7.57 FotMob per game, which was the highest in the BK Hacken team, while averaging 3.5 tackles per game, the joint-highest of any player, and the most blocks (1.7).

The Copenhagen-born ace can also contribute on the front foot, scoring three goals in all competitions since the start of the 2025-26 season.

Given Andersen’s tackling ability, he could replace Gomes, so the promising news is now favorites to secure his signature this summer.
