JJ Spaun will be looking to pull off another surprise win this weekend as he aims for back-to-back wins at the US Open. Since Spaun’s shock victory at Oakmont 12 months ago, the LA-born star has played in the Ryder Cup and won the 2026 Valero Texas Open. Still, he remains an outsider to defend the title despite a strong recent performance.

The third of the year’s majors, and the 126th edition of “Golf’s Toughest Test,” this year takes place at the unforgiving Shinnecock Hills course on Long Island, New York, with onshore winds and firm, fast greens destined to challenge the world’s best.

Current Scottie Scheffler surprisingly enters the weekend’s action as the heavy favorite with the bookies, closely followed by reigning champion Rory McIlroy.

How to watch US Open 2026 online from anywhere using a VPN

If you’re traveling abroad and want to keep up with all the golf action while away from home, a VPN can help improve your privacy and security while streaming.

It encrypts your traffic and prevents your internet service provider from throttling your speed. Additionally, it can help if you connect to public Wi-Fi networks while traveling, providing an extra layer of security for your devices and logins. VPNs are legal in many countries, including the US and Canada, and can be used for legitimate purposes such as improving online privacy and security.

However, some streaming services may have policies that restrict the use of a VPN to access region-specific content. If you’re considering a VPN for streaming, check the platform’s terms of service to ensure compliance.

If you choose to use a VPN, follow the provider’s installation instructions to ensure you are connected securely and comply with applicable laws and service agreements. Some streaming platforms can block access when a VPN is detected, so making sure your streaming subscription allows VPN use is important.

Quick tips for streaming US Open 2026 using a VPN

  • With four variables at play — your ISP, browser, video streaming provider and VPN — your experience and success when streaming can vary.
  • If you don’t see the location you’re interested in as ExpressVPN’s default option, try using the “search for a city or country” option.
  • If you’re having trouble finding a tournament after turning on your VPN and setting it to the right viewing position, there are two things you can try to fix it quickly. First, log into your subscription account for the streaming service and make sure the address registered for the account is the address in the correct viewing area. If not, you may need to change the physical address on file with your account. Second, some smart TVs — like Roku — don’t have VPN apps that you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you will have to install a VPN on your router or mobile hotspot that you use (like your phone) so that any device on its Wi-Fi network will now appear in the right view.
  • All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main site for quickly installing a VPN on your router. In some cases with smart TV services, after installing the cable network sports app, you will be asked to confirm a numeric code or click on a link sent to your email address in the file of your smart TV. This is where having a VPN on your router will also help, as both devices will appear to be in the right place.
  • And remember, browsers can often provide a location without using a VPN, so make sure you use a private browser first to access your services. We generally recommend Brave.
