The Tate brothers remain in prison as they fight to be extradited to the UK – National
Social media influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate will remain in jail for at least two more weeks until their next trial as they fight to be extradited to the United Kingdom, where the brothers are accused of rape and sex trafficking, a judge said on Monday.
US Magistrate Lauren Louis set a detention hearing for August 13 to decide whether the Tates should remain in prison or be released during what could be a months-long extradition process.
The Tates were not in court Monday or required to be and have remained in jail since their brief court appearance two days after their July 18 arrest.
The Tates promote wealth, male dominance and corruption through their social media empire and are among the world’s most divisive internet personalities. Former professional boxers, who hold dual US and UK citizenship, have millions of followers on social media and are supporters of US President Donald Trump.
The White House said the brothers should not expect any help from the president. Asked on Thursday whether the White House would intervene in the repatriation plan, press secretary Caroline Leavitt flatly rejected the idea.

The Tates’ lawyer, Joseph McBride, said after last week’s hearing that they should stay in the US
“We are absolutely against it being reinstated because Andrew and Tristan are innocent,” McBride said. “They have never done anything bad. They should not be sent back to the country for crimes they did not commit.”
McBride said the extradition effort was politically motivated and suggested the case affected former British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s decision to step down, although he did not provide details.
Prosecutors in Britain said the new charges against four new accusers were brought after authorities obtained evidence from police in Bedfordshire, southeast England. The allegations, which date from 2010 to 2017, include rape, assault, human trafficking and charges related to “child pornography and extreme pornography.”
McBride said no recent accusers have been identified.
The brothers have been charged with rape, grievous bodily harm, human trafficking and controlling prostitution for profit in relation to three other accused in the UK between 2012 and 2015.
The new allegations are the latest in a long-running international legal case involving the Tates involving the United States, Britain and Romania. The brothers have repeatedly denied wrongdoing.
The brothers moved to Romania in 2016 and were arrested there in 2022, accused of participating in schemes to attract women for sexual exploitation. They denied those allegations, and the Romanian case did not proceed due to legal and procedural issues.
Travel restrictions were lifted last year, and they flew to Florida.
Andrew Tate, 39, became famous ten years ago when he entered the UK television game show Big Brother. He was removed from the show when a video appeared showing him beating a woman.
He has amassed more than 10 million followers on X but has been banned from other platforms, including YouTube, TikTok and Instagram, for violating hate speech guidelines. He has made widely criticized comments, such as that women who have been sexually assaulted should take responsibility for the attacks and share clear explanations of how he can attack women.
The Tate brothers have always denied allegations of abuse and human trafficking, saying their violent and abusive statements were taken out of context or were intended as jokes.
