The Ottawa Senators are looking to improve their defense
Irf Gaffar and Dave Pagnotta on the DFO Rundown Insider Edition discussed the Ottawa Senators’ interest in adding a right-shooting defenseman and the possibility of moving on from newly acquired defenseman Jordan Spence.

We have a lot to take out, and I’m sure people will, and I’m sure we’ll talk about it this weekend, and things continue to go on, we talk about their need for a defender. A right-handed defender, preferably. I heard that Ottawa’s Senators Jordan will move the problem.”

Dave Pagnotta: “Yeah, they’ve been a little disappointed this season with his performance. I know the LA Kings are complaining about letting him go for a draft pick. But it didn’t really work out in Ottawa, and he was someone they were listening to, or at least scouting before the deadline. You’re right, they want to improve that right side.
They want to bring the top-4 right now. A one-two type of defender on the right side of that team who is mobile, flexible, but also has a little body in his game. But that seems to be the priority for the Ottawa Senators this offseason, and for Steve Staios.
They also want to bring a top six into their mix, but it seems like the blue line is the most important thing for the Sens. “
Senators Need a Defender at Last Time
The Ottawa Senators were looking to upgrade their defense at the NHL Trade Deadline. Ottawa needs defensive help for most of the season. As The Athletic’s Julian McKenzie said on the Full Press Hockey Podcast, without Jake Sanderson, Artem Zub, and Thomas Chabot, it was a cycle between four, five, and six.
McKenzie: “There have been problems on defense, when I look at the soldiers on this team now, with Jake Sanderson, Artem Zub, and Thomas Chabot. I don’t think you have to worry about them as a top three, but four, five, and six, there’s this kind of situation where you have Jordan Spence and Nick Jensen alternating in that second baseman Nilola, Okolaan Mampitin. like in and out of the lineup, and Tyler Kleven, who is the fifth I think he’s had moments where he’s been good, but I think a lot was expected of him in terms of jumping.
Ottawa Senators: Claude Giroux, and goaltending options
I think that’s one thing that needs to be discussed with this team, obviously not at the guard level, but I think the defense could use a little help, and we’ll see if they do anything to fix that in the final stretch.
The Senators never improved their defense and were exploited by the Carolina Hurricanes in Round 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Nick Jensen is coming off hip reconstruction surgery and was not the player he was last year. He emphasized that the fourth place and how it should be improved.
