The leaders of the race are emerging as Tottenham plan to overtake West Ham to sign the World Cup star

Tottenham Hotspur have been the undisputed winners of the summer transfer window so far. They have spent more than £200m to develop Roberto De Zerbi’s side and could be made there with links like Ruben Vargas.
The Swiss star has enjoyed a strong World Cup campaign and will face Argentina’s Lionel Messi in the quarter-finals.
Although he is focused on making history with his country, the defender is already doing what he loves ahead of a potential move this summer.

Honesty |
Tottenham are not playing this summer. After flirting with the relegation zone for the past two seasons, they are finally jumping into action and Vargas could be next. He is reportedly preferring a move to the Premier League and that is a bigger advantage for the Lilywhites than West Ham. |
|
Finance |
The World Cup can make things interesting for player valuations, but it looks like Sevilla are sticking to their €15 million (£13m) asking price which would be a perfect bargain for interested parties. |
|
Understanding |
The midfielder enjoyed a fantastic World Cup with Switzerland, scoring two goals and assisting once as his country made history. As a depth option, he could be a very good player in North London. |
|
Impact |
It will go back to West Ham’s drawing board if they fail to sign Vargas, although it remains to be seen who they will target in the Championship. |
Vargas could be the latest superstar to get a great move from a stunning World Cup performance.
Tottenham plan to sign Ruben Vargas
According to Spain’s Orgullo Biri, as reported by Sport Witness, Tottenham are planning to hijack West Ham to sign Vargas. The Hammers have already been linked with the Sevilla striker, but his interest in the Premier League has put Spurs and Brighton & Hove Albion in the driving seat.
The Premier League duo must now lead the race for the Swiss star amid his transfer ambitions. Whether their interest turns into an offer remains to be seen, however. Sevilla valued the 28-year-old for just £13m this summer.
Tottenham should not prioritize Vargas’ departure
As tempting as it will be for Spurs to get one from West Ham, Vargas is not someone to put forward.
Before enjoying an impressive World Cup, this player who scored just three goals assisted six more in Spain. It would be a big mistake to sign the star of the summer tournament who has struggled in this country.

Instead of signing Vargas, the Spurs would have been better off keeping Mathys Tel. The former PSG man outperformed the Swiss star per game last season and is only 21 years younger.
