The Fever coach is accused of disrespecting Caitlin Clark with a strange response after the fourth quarter of the championship

Caitlin Clark finally got her shot Friday night against the Washington Mystics, hitting five 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, including the game-tying shot with 1.7 seconds left to force overtime.

That, in itself, can be a story. Clark stinks this season from beyond the arc, but he’s gotten his shot where it matters most.

A three game tie was a good thing. Seriously, the WNBA should be frothing at the mouth today. Forget the noise. They need Clark to be good. Believe me, I have seen the numbers.

If it’s hitting buzzer beaters and trending on social media, it is fever WNBA dream and marketing people. No one else in the league even comes close.

Yes, they do LOVE that. Trust me.

Anyway, of course not the story today. The Fever went on to lose in overtime. That’s it again not the story.

Instead, the story is the … weird … response of Fever coach Stephanie White after the game when asked specifically about Clark’s game heroics.

Check out:

This sounds like ‘coach speak’ to me

“I thought our whole team showed resilience in that meeting and we showed the ability to hit difficult shots,” said White. “We showed the ability to shoot hard. We had a really good time with some kills, attacking and defending … we have to have more of it every time.”

So, everyone is crazy about this answer today. Social media is a cesspool, and the pitchforks are aimed at Stephanie White right now.

Fans accused him of disrespecting Clark. Ignore Clark. He played down his fourth quarter effort, totaling 17 points. He finished with 32 points and seven 3-pointers.

Not bad!

I could go on and on. There’s blood on Elon’s agenda today. Everyone is on fire.

Personally… I don’t really see a problem with the answer. Coach talks 101. Some people say White never loved Caitlin Clark. Maybe. I don’t know that for sure. There is no one.

FEVER COACH STEPHANIE WHITE CLAIMED SHE WAS PAID BY WNBA FILING

But I’m not sure what he has to say here that we don’t already know? We all saw Clark hit the game-tying shot. We saw what he did in the fourth quarter. We know you are a great player. Do the fans really need the coach to reassure them by stating the obvious? It seems small to me.

The coaches are always very hard on the best player. Plus, it’s training 101. It comes with a field. What’s that classic quote from “Remember the Titans?”

“You want to be a star, you better give me a star effort.”

Sounds like that’s what we have here between Caitlin Clark and Stephanie White. The fever has subsided. Clark, as he was in the fourth quarter, still shot 10 of 28 from the field. In fact, I would hope that Caitlin Clark wasn’t interested in getting her roses after the loss, no matter how good she was on the floor.
