The club have agreed a £74m deal for the Manchester United striker

Manchester United coach, Michael Carrick, believes that Luke Shaw deserves a place in Thomas Tuchel’s team that will play in the World Cup.

Man Utd’s players are thriving under Carrick

The England manager named his picks for this summer’s tournament on Friday, but the 30-year-old defender looks to be an outsider for a fifth major tournament.

Carrick has been instrumental in improving the status of the few people at Old Trafford, while Kobbie Mainoo is a big success story and could earn a place on the plane to North America.

Asked if Shaw also deserves a call-up as he opened the scoring in United’s 3-2 win against Nottingham Forest, former England international Carrick said: “I think so, yes.”

“I don’t have much power in the matter, but I think so.

“And, consistency, just what he’s capable of. Performance, knowledge, his strength, his attributes.

“For me, yes, he is a very good defender. I think between them, I think all three of them have not been dangerous recently.”

Shaw has struggled with injuries and questions about his fitness since joining United from Southampton in 2014, but has started every Premier League game so far this season.

Manchester United could be ready to sign another striker for Michael Carrick this summer.

The likes of Mainoo, Shaw and Benjamin Sesko all looked like shells of themselves before Carrick’s arrival, but Fabrizio Romano has revealed one player who will not get the chance to revive their Old Trafford career.

Hojlund defends ‘behind the scenes’ deal with Napoli

Indeed, the journalist has confirmed on his YouTube channel that Rasmus Hojlund will not return to United at the end of his loan spell, with Napoli willing to trigger an option in their loan deal.

United will receive €50m (£43m) including loan costs and a permanent fee.

And while that was widely expected, Romano also revealed some ‘behind the scenes’ details – the striker has received an exit clause that could see the Serie A club make a huge profit on United’s wages.

“A total of €50m, saving his salary, and a little behind the scenes, Rasmus Hojlund at Napoli will have a release clause in his €85m (£74m) contract valid from the summer of 2027.”

The coach of Napoli, Antonio Conte, has been praising the skill of this Danish striker, telling the media at the beginning of the year that: “Rasmus is a player with a lot of room for improvement, he is only 22 years old, but we are talking about two important players.

“We are lucky to have them in our team because they help a lot, Scott (McTominay) last season and this season Scott and Rasmus.”

McTominay has gone on to become a Ballon d’Or winner since leaving United, and it seems that Napoli have plans to make a big splash if Hojlund follows the same path of development.
