The Calgary Flames, and the San Jose Sharks

The NHL continues to see a lot of action on Tuesday with a number of trades involving some great young players on the rise. It was the second Tuesday in a row that trades went down across the NHL, as the free-agent crop was not the best. Let’s dive into the latest rumors involving other teams and players as more moves are expected.
Simon Nemec is looking to stay in Calgary for the long term
The Calgary Flames acquired Simon Nemec from the New Jersey Devils. The second overall pick from the 2022 NHL Draft was looking for a change of scenery. He found that in Calgary, where he will be counted on to play up top alongside Kevin Bahl.
Nemec is a restricted free agent and is open to signing a long-term deal with the Flames.
NHL Trades: Simon Nemec, William Eklund, and Jordan Kyrou
Eric Francis of Sportsnet: Nemec: “They sacrificed a lot for me and I’d like to stay as long as possible. If I look at the team, it’s worth it. (Conroy) told me to be in good shape for big minutes and obviously that’s what you want. I’ll be ready for that. I didn’t ask for a trade but both sides knew something had to happen.”
It will be interesting to see where the final contract length and dollar figure comes in as he is a pending free agent.
What will the San Jose Sharks do with the second overall pick?
The San Jose Sharks traded William Eklund, Kasper Halttunen, and the rights to Brandon Svoboda to the Ottawa Senators for the 9th overall pick. The Sharks now have two top 10 players and are still looking for a second pick.
Curtis Pashelka: Sharks manager Mike Grier on other teams interested in their No. 2 draft pick: “There were probably five teams that were interested in everything, and we got a couple of legitimate offers that we had to think about and have conversations about, and I expect to continue in the next three days.”
As NHLRumors.com reported, the second pick has been a trade conversation for a while now. Many people think they are still going to trade for a defender. However, they can take Ivar Stenberg at two and a defender at nine. However, to move the pick, it should be for a player who is likely to be on his roster for a long time.

Max Miller: Grier: “It would have to make sense for us to move away from second base, and find a new player like that who could be on our roster for a long time. It’s a really good young player, or young players who might be a little further down the line than an 18-year-old guy who could come in and do the same thing, be a part of our roster for a long time.”
The Sharks will look to add a big name and now have the assets to do so with two top-10 picks.
