The Arsenal player wants to leave, direct talks are ongoing with the club, the money has been changed

Fabio Vieira’s Arsenal career hasn’t panned out as many expected, but his return to Germany has shown there is still plenty of quality left in the Portuguese international.
When Arsenal signed Vieira from Porto in 2022, they believed they were getting one of Europe’s most talented midfielders. He has played in Portugal, winning league titles and establishing himself as a brilliant attacking player who can unlock stubborn defenses with his passing and vision.
However, adapting to the Premier League has been difficult.
Injuries have hampered his progress, while stiff competition for places has limited his chances under Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal are instead looking for a loan move to revive his career. After returning to Porto on loan, Vieira regained his confidence before another short-term transfer, this time to Hamburg, gave him the regular football he so desperately needed.
That decision turned out to be a very good decision.
Vieira was one of Hamburg’s standout players during the 25/26 campaign, making 31 appearances in all competitions while contributing seven goals and six assists.
He finished the season as the club’s top scorer and top creator, playing a major role in helping HSV comfortably reach their goal of staying in the Bundesliga after promotion.
His technical quality, smart movement and ability to command attacks quickly made him a favorite with fans, coaching staff and teammates alike.
From Arsenal’s perspective, it has been encouraging to see the 26-year-old rebuild his reputation.
Although he no longer appears to be part of Arteta’s long-term plans, his performances have restored his value and attracted genuine interest from a club who clearly believe he can be a cornerstone of their future.
Arsenal are in talks with Hamburg about selling Fabio Vieira
According to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, that belief has now grown into serious discussions.
Plettenberg reports that Hamburg and Arsenal are still in direct contact over a permanent deal, with the two clubs now exchanging financial figures.
Although Vieira left Arsenal before the season, talks are ongoing as both sides work to find a solution before the transfer window closes.
The position of the midfielder also seems to be getting clearer.
Plettenberg says Vieira is hopeful that an agreement will be reached because he likes the club, the city and the head coach. Hamburg have made a number of signings this summer, but those arrivals are understood to be completely separate from any potential deal for the Portuguese international, underscoring how determined they are to bring him back permanently.
The biggest obstacle is likely to be financial rather than personal.
Hamburg have made no secret of their desire to keep Vieira, and Arsenal are understandably looking for a fee that reflects his quality and the fine season he recently produced in Germany.
Given how comfortable Vieira looks in Hamburg and how much the club values him, a permanent move now feels like the right outcome for everyone involved.
