The £87m star will be completely out of contract at Spurs if Marcos Senesi signs

James Maddison called in Tottenham Hotspur’s medical team after Roberto De Zerbi started the celebrations on Sunday.
Tottenham, finally, got the job done in the Premier League, beating Everton on the last day of the season to save themselves and condemn West Ham United to relegation to the Championship.
The hard work begins now. If Spurs find themselves in the relegation zone again next year, tensions could escalate, with a coup against the ENIC Group already.

However, the board is hoping to signal change well and quickly, with a deal for a few new defenders already on the horizon.
The latest in Spurs’ search for new defenders
Now that Tottenham’s Premier League status is secured, they can now plan for the future. Chief among ENIC’s targets is Andy Robertson, who is expected to sign for the Londoners when his Liverpool contract expires next month.
However, the Scottish veteran is not alone in heading north to London, with Marcos Senesi also finalizing a move to Tottenham, according to Matteo Moretto.
A transfer reporter claims the Lilywhites have “verbally agreed” to secure the signature of the outgoing Bournemouth defender, who beat Liverpool in the race.
Senesi and Spurs are on the same page, and that’s a good thing too. Tottenham have been good defensively this year, and although this is a problem that involves more than just the shortcomings of the backline, the signing of Senesi is important, confirming that the N17’s main job is over.
The Spurs star is gone when Senesi signs
Micky van de Ven and Kevin Danso formed a strong partnership in the absence of Cristian Romero, the Argentine who suffered a season-ending injury in De Zerbi’s first game in charge, a 1-0 defeat at Sunderland.
Romero returned to his homeland to watch Spurs avoid defeat to Everton, but will not play again for the club, who are expected to be looking to sell in the summer.
Former Spurs player Chris Waddle, speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, said at the start of the season that the 27-year-old “never really wanted to be at Tottenham”, and while he is a formidable player, whether he is the right captain is certainly a question worth asking.
Romero has spoken extensively about his love for the club, but Tottenham have shown in the tough situations they can adapt to, and that will only deepen when a full-back like Senesi is welcomed into the fold.
After all, with Romero attracting Spanish suitors, among others, it looks like he will be headed for the exit; ENIC Group have put an £87m price tag on his signature.
Whether Tottenham are able to bankroll such a huge sum remains to be seen, but their hopes of securing a small sum have doubled now that security has been secured.
Senesi is the oldest club, having created seven great chances throughout the 2025/26 season. In addition, he won almost six duels in each game, carrying the ball forward and looking to provoke an attacking transition from deep.
That kind of movement hasn’t been in north London this term, and Romero is ready for most of the campaign. Something needs to change, and with Senesi coming in, De Zerbi may find he’s hit the jackpot.
