Sunderland fear a major blow as Aston Villa lead the race to sign Talbi

Sunderland now fear the worst amid Aston Villa’s leading interest in signing the Wearside attacker, who could cost them around £48m this summer.
Le Bris aims “higher” after beating Leeds
It has been the most difficult phase of the season for Sunderland, who started the campaign very well before winning just three of their last ten games before facing Leeds United.

Three points were much needed against the Whites. In a match between two promoted sides with a chance to break the recent trend and secure Premier League status, Regis Le Bris knew how important victory was.
That is why Habib Diarra’s penalty in the 70th minute was received with open arms. The Black Cats’ record signing dispatched his spotkick with ease to secure a crucial win.

Now, Le Bris is focusing on “higher” ambitions – telling reporters: “Forty-three. I think step by step, this point was really important.
“We don’t know at the moment if it will be enough, because the season can be crazy and (relegation) is still possible, because the race will be intense. But we still have nine games to play and if we keep the same mentality we can have something more, (maybe) more, we will see.”
As things stand, Sunderland are five points behind Chelsea and eight behind Liverpool in the race for European places. Even if they can pull off what could be a stunning success, they could lose one of their attacking stars this summer.
Aston Villa lead the Talbi race
As reported by Sports Boom, Aston Villa are leading the race to sign Chemsdine Talbi from Sunderland this summer. The striker has enjoyed an impressive debut campaign in the Premier League and is worth €55m (£48m) as a result.
Whether Aston Villa are in a position to get that money amid issues surrounding the PSR and incoming SCR (Squad Cost Ratio) rules remains a big question.
With Donyell Malen set to sign a permanent move to AS Roma, however, there may be reason for Sunderland to worry ahead of the summer.

Dubbed “electric” by talent scout Jacek Kulig last season, Talbi is still only 20 years old and is likely to get better in the years to come.
It speaks volumes for the Sunderland midfielder’s abilities that the Black Cats valued their striker at an estimated £48m. With Aston Villa reportedly in a position to snap up his signature, he will certainly be one to watch.
Of course, with both clubs fighting to defend European titles, it may come down to whether Talbi wants to trust the Sunderland project or join a European-ready team in the Midlands.
