Romano drops update on De Zerbi to Spurs with ENIC eyeing Tudor replacement

Fabrizio Romano has now shared a new update on who could replace Igor Tudor in the dugout, with Tottenham Hotspur looking for an emergency replacement for the interim manager.

Spurs are looking to replace Tudor after a winless start

After Richarlison salvaged a late point against Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday, Tudor insisted he remains fully focused on the job at hand, and has no worries about his future.

Croatian said: “I have been coaching for 15 years, I have never thought about my future. I have never thought about my future, my future, I always think about training tomorrow, how I will help the players.

“I don’t study anything, I don’t look at anything, the future is just a thought, the future [doesn’t] they exist. It’s today’s, tomorrow’s, training.”

It remains to be seen whether the result will buy the interim manager more time, as results have been worse since he was brought in as Thomas Frank’s replacement, with Spurs losing four of their last five games.

However, ENIC has begun making contingency plans, according to a report by Football Insider, which says the board is now looking for an emergency replacement for Tudor, with the likes of Sean Dyche, Harry Redknapp and Glenn Hoddle being considered.

Fabrizio Romano has even dismissed further speculation about Tottenham’s interest in former Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi, saying:

“De Zerbi may be an option now, but what I can tell you is that De Zerbi, he was a top target for Tottenham, but at the moment, Roberto De Zerbi is not ready to take the job now in the middle of the season.

“That’s what Roberto De Zerbi at this stage, from what I’m told, doesn’t want to do. So, let’s see what will happen next, maybe in the summer. I’m sure there will be a lot of interest.”

De Zerbi could be a good summer signing

In fact, it’s no surprise that the Italian is not keen on taking over as Tottenham manager at the moment, given the situation they find themselves in, sitting just one point off the Premier League relegation zone despite a fine point at Anfield on Sunday.

And the Sunday manager has high praise for the Italian, saying he is one of the best managers in football and urging big clubs to consider signing him.

“I consider him one of the best managers in the world. In my opinion, it should not always be looked at the number of trophies you win, it should also be looked at how you allow your team to play. I think he is working in a very big club because Marseille is a big club, at the moment and has history too.

“I’m not the one who hires coaches but if I were one, he would be at the top of the list if I was working in a big team. I always like to watch his teams.” – Arne Slot to Roberto De Zerbi

The 46-year-old already has experience in England, having spent just over two years at Brighton, with the Seagulls qualifying for the Europa League by finishing sixth in the 2022-2023 campaign.

The former Brighton manager later put in a solid performance at Marseille, averaging 1.81 points per game in the role and qualifying for the Champions League by finishing second last season.

De Zerbi could be an exciting time for Tottenham this summer, but bringing in a manager who can make a short-term impact in relegation battles would be a smart move before then, as Tudor have made a terrible start.
