Pierce County Sheriff Keith Swank says opponents want him out because of differences of opinion

Lawmakers call on school leaders for gender policies in schools
School superintendents, including those from Loudoun County and Chicago Public Schools, are being targeted by the House Education and Labor Committee over controversial gender identity policies. The discussion focused on allowing natural men in women’s areas and parental rights. Seth Wolfe, a Loudoun County parent, expressed dissatisfaction with the responses, stressing concerns about student safety and education, advocating for parental authority in life-changing decisions.

Washington County’s sheriff says a bid that could eventually remove him from office is being pushed by political opponents who are angered by his outspoken views on gender issues and other culture war issues.
Pierce County Sheriff Keith Swank is vowing to fight a ballot proposal that would allow county leaders to appoint, rather than elect, future sheriffs, arguing that the effort is less about government reform than silencing an executive who refuses to fall in line.
“They hate me,” Swank told KOMO News in an article published Tuesday, referring to what he said was a group that wanted to oust him. “They want to get rid of the police officer. They want to fire me so that they can have complete control. The sheriff is the last thing standing between the chaos and the people.”

KOMO News reported that Swank is “known for his controversial statements on immigration enforcement and transgender issues,” and that on Monday, the Pierce County Charter Review Commission voted to put a proposal on the November ballot that, if passed, would give the Pierce County executive the authority to appoint a chief justice, rather than an officer elected by voters.
If approved, the Pierce County executive will appoint the sheriff, pending confirmation by the Pierce County Council.
KOMO News reported that if the vote proposal is approved, the change will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2027. Swank is not up for re-election until 2028.

“I will have to step down when I finish two years of my four-year term,” Swank told KOMO News. “The establishment likes the status quo. They don’t want to back down. They want to tell you what to do, and I say I’m independently elected, and future sheriffs should be independently elected.”
The effort to change from an appointed sheriff to an appointed sheriff was introduced by Commissioner Jake Hunter, who reportedly said, “This would not be a question if recent events had not raised serious concerns about the accountability and governance of this office.”
On June 8, the Bethel School District, located in Pierce County, told Fox News Digital that they removed testosterone vials from the Pride parade at Graham-Kapowsin High School after administrators discovered that the vials had been added without permission, including some vials that still contained a small amount of an unknown liquid.
Prior to Bethel School District’s announcement that it had removed the bottles, Swank wrote in a June 5 post on X that, “The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office will be investigating this.”

In Monday’s letter to X, Swank addressed biology and the transgender issue directly, writing, “‘Love is Love,'” they said. Now it’s men living, cosplaying as women, assaulting and beating women in sports, records broken, and reports of attacks on women’s prisons. When emotions take the place of biology, our daughters become collateral damage.”
Swank continued, “The slope wasn’t slippery; it was steep. And the left’s sympathy for suicide requires us to throw our wives and daughters off that cliff. Mind check: sex-segregated divisions protect everyone. More this week. Should transgender women, men who play as women, be allowed to compete in women’s sports?”
