Obama aide Ben Rhodes was criticized by conservatives for the Iran comments

Ben Rhodes, the Obama administration’s top negotiator for the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, came under fire on social media Saturday after criticizing US military strikes in Iran.

Shortly after the joint attack by the US and Israel, Rhodes was writing to criticize the administration on social media, saying that Trump and Netanyahu “seem to have no regard for the people – on all sides – who will suffer.”

“Trump’s second term has been the worst,” Rhodes said in another X post.

Rhodes was quickly derided by many conservatives on social media who pointed to the Obama-era Iran deal as the reason for allowing the situation to escalate to this point and blamed the Obama administration for not taking the Iranian threat seriously.

“Yes, we’ve been better off with a president who drew redlines and failed to enforce them,” said American Enterprise Institute fellow and Fox News contributor Marc Thiessen. posted on X. “Obama’s team may want to go public.”

“Well, look, the guy who created this mess in the first place is now inside,” said Republican digital operative Alec Sears. posted on X.

“You were part of a team that gave billions of dollars to the Government of Iran – you helped finance these criminals,” said former Acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell. posted on X. “Once again, President Trump is cleaning up your mess.”

“You have eight years to do something about this,” said Red State columnist Bonchie posted on X. “Instead, you have become a foreign worker doing everything you can to preserve the Islamic state.”

“Obama’s staff cried for the mullahs,” former Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh posted on X.

“Ben Rhodes is to blame for how America got to this point,” Middle East and Politics analyst Matthew Brodsky. posted on X. “He is a no-nonsense ambassador to the Iranian government. It took years to repair the damage of his foreign policy.”

On Saturday afternoon, it was reported that Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who ruled the Islamic Republic for more than three decades, was killed in a strike against Iran.

Israeli leaders have confirmed that Khamenei’s compound and offices were destroyed early Saturday morning after the strike that targeted the city of Tehran.

“Khamenei was a long-time autocrat in the Middle East. He didn’t become that way by being a gambler. Khamenei was a thinker, but one who ruthlessly pursued the preservation and protection of his vision, often taking two steps forward and one step back,” Behnam Ben Taleblu, executive director of FDDtal Digital, told Iran’s Fox News.
