NHL Rumors: Vancouver Canucks, Seattle Kraken and Anaheim Ducks

The trade market for two Vancouver Canucks wing players and a center is not yet in place

Thomas Drance of the Athletic: (mailbag) There are still some decent wings in free agency, so the trade market for Vancouver Canucks wings Jake DeBrusk and Brock Boeser has been discounted. The likes of Anthony Mantha, Michael Bunting, Eeli Tolvanen, Vladimir Tarasenko and Patrick Kane can be had without giving up possessions. DeBrusk and Boeser also have no-movement clauses.

In terms of trading Elias Pettersson, maybe the Canucks are looking at a deal similar to the one the Edmonton Oilers made with the San Jose Sharks for Darnell Nurse. Shed the entire contract and take a younger player who may be a depth player, but has some upside. If the Canucks traded a bad contract for a better return, it might be a better route.

If they get the right offer, the Canucks may prefer to give Pettersson a fresh start somewhere instead of coming back and trying to increase his value. If Pettersson returns, Linus Karlsson’s game may be one that fits his wing better. Adding a speedy left winger who can handle space in the area would be nice, but he may not be there yet.

Will Elias Pettersson Be Traded?

The Canucks might be better off trading DeBrusk for the second time and signing Michael Bunting as his replacement for two years might put him in a better position.

The Vancouver Canucks have discussed trades with the Seattle Kraken and Anaheim Ducks

Oilers Now with Bob Stauffer: Rick Dhaliwal to the Vancouver Canucks should target young players under the age of 25 who have no trade protection. They had some interest in Seattle Kraken’s Shane Wright but didn’t like the price. They talked to the Anaheim Ducks about adding a contract sweetener. It’s cash in, cash out for the Canucks as we’ve already seen.

Dhaliwal: “Anything in Vancouver is money going out, money coming in.

They should look at guys like Shane Wright. Canucks do like Shane Wright. They approached Seattle about him, but the question was too high. You know, Seattle wants one of their two young defensemen, Zeev Buium or Tom Willander.

Get those guys under 25, Bob, no moves. They have no movement, so they can’t block Vancouver’s trade. Go get Kent Johnson, Shane Wright, Matthew Knies. They are all under the age of 25, and have no trade protection. These are the boys who have to go and get them.

Bobby, let me add this. The Ducks are trying to move other players to sign Cutter Gauthier. Anaheim will have to stick with sweeteners to get rid of guys like Frank Vatrano. Someone told me today that the Ducks called Vancouver to see if they would take Vatrano off their hands because they have to cash out. Tons of money for Gauthier. They are scratched. That, the offer sheet has hidden.

The Philadelphia Flyers’ Have the Flexibility of Two Major Extensions in the Next Year or Two

So, anyway, those are the kind of guys Vancouver has to offer right now. Frank Vatrano is out of Anaheim. But again, Vancouver’s money out, money in. The budget is tight. And they got a good GM, though. It’s a strategy here. They will be patient. It will take, you have to write and improve, Bob, in rebuilding. “
