Claude Giroux may be waiting for Leo Carlsson’s offer sheet with the Philadelphia Flyers to play
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen: There were reports Friday that UFA forward Claude Giroux will return to the Philadelphia Flyers. He spent 15 seasons there and played more than 1,000 games with them. Sources said he had not made a decision, but it was possible.
The Toronto Maple Leafs talked to him, the Edmonton Oilers made a pitch. Sportsnet’s Mark Spector said the Oilers are no longer involved. The Ottawa Senators remain in the mix.
The thinking around the league is that he will end up in Philly, but they may be waiting for Leo Carlsson to be cleared to play. The Flyers had $30 million in cap space, but also need to re-sign RFAs Trevor Zegras and Jamie Drysdale.
The Senators may have a similar proposal on the table that they played with last year; one year at a $2 million salary and up to $2.75 million in incentives for games played and playoff success. He ended up getting $1 million in bonuses.
