Darren Dreger: There are many teams talking to the Buffalo Sabers about defenseman Bowen Byram. He has one year left on his contract and will be signed by UFA after next season. With agent Darren Ferris’ history of taking his clients to free agents, there is incentive for the Sabers to move him.

Seravalli: “It has nothing to do with location. Bowen Byram likes Buffalo. He likes his teammates. He likes the direction of the Sabers. This has to do with the opportunity and the ongoing challenge, as I understand it, that exists within Bowen Byron.
He considers himself the best defenseman in the NHL. And watching him in these qualifiers, it’s hard to argue that it isn’t. So, if you think about where he was in his career, the first Stanley Cup winner, he, no matter what, was always behind Cale Makar in Colorado.
It’s that Bowen Byram believes in himself, and he has this drum that says, ‘I can be that guy.’ And I think he can. Some teams think they can. Now it’s about getting to a place where he can prove it, and there are a lot of teams that would like to find out if a 21-year-old, 25-year-old who can play on both sides of the blue line can do that for the team and be the number one.
Buccigross: “Definitely, the list is very long. Also, a dynamic player, a good age to get the max from next year, which would be seven years depending on if he stays with the team he’s in, and I’m sure they’ll finish, so it’s a seven-year contract. Like I said, about 10 years, I think we’re starting that.
