New York Islanders, Minnesota Wild, and Top 25 NHL Trade Board

The New York Islanders could bring back David Rittich

Stephen Rosner: New York Islanders pending UFA goaltender David Rittich will sign a one-year, $1 million contract. The Islanders will continue to monitor Semyon Varlamov’s rehab, but get the sense that the Islanders haven’t made a decision to bring Rittich back next season.

Who’s living and what’s going on with the Minnesota Wild’s free agents

Michael Russo and Joe Smith of The Athletic: The Minnesota Wild will do everything they can to extend defenseman Quinn Hughes this offseason. That would be very helpful in knowing what they have to work on cap wise beyond next season.

They have about $15 million in cap space for next season, as well as eight free agents to make decisions. To see who can come back and who can go.

The Minnesota Wild, and Buffalo Sabers trade divisions may need to shed salary

Top Priority

Michael McCarron – The lack of centers on the market could make him indispensable. It will be his first major contract.

Mats Zuccarello – They may offer a one or two year contract in the range of $3 million, or make a contract with bonuses over 35.

One or the other – Marcus Johansson or Vladimir Tarasenko.

Price should be right – Nick Foligno (will have to take a big discount at $4.5 million), Zach Bogosian (missed a total of 43 games this season – is he young and durable? Guerin likes him).

Thank you for your service – Jeff Petry, Robby Fabbri, Nicolas Aube-Kubel, Ben Jones, Ben Gleason, Cal Petersen.
