Middlesbrough are now lining up a £13m move for FC Cincinnati star Kevin Denkey
Middlesbrough are now planning a summer move for the 2024/25 Europa Conference League star, who is “super fit”, but they may have to avoid competing with their Championship rivals…
The Championship promotion race took another gear on Saturday, as Coventry City extended their lead at the top to three points, courtesy of a 2-0 away win against West Bromwich Albion.
Boro, on the other hand, were held 0-0 at home against Oxford United, but fortunately, Millwall slipped at home to Portsmouth, losing 3-1, while Ipswich Town were on the verge of losing 5-3 at Wrexham.
Kim Hellberg was not too disheartened by the draw, saying after the match: “We had chances in the game especially in the second half, in the end it was 0-0, there was no goal, you have to take the point and move on.
“This is the part when you play against these teams when they defend with their hearts all the time. We should have scored, of course, but we didn’t. One point to add to the tally and we move on.”
With the Teessiders in a strong position to win promotion, six points clear of third-placed Millwall, they have now begun to identify targets for the summer transfer window, and are eyeing a move for FC Cincinnati striker Kevin Denkey.
That’s according to journalist Alan Nixon (via The 72), who says the deal could be around £13m, with Denkey open to a move to England at the end of the season.
Boro may have to fend off interest from one of their main Championship promotion rivals, however, with Coventry also named as an interested club.
Boro eye striker with ‘good body’
After signing for FC Cincinnati, the 25-year-old received high praise from General Manager Chris Albright, who said.: “Kevin has been one of the most productive forwards in Europe over the past two years, displaying an elite physique, finishing ability, and work ethic.”
Indeed, the former Cercle Brugge man was impressive in front of goal during his time in Belgium, notching four goals and four assists in four Europa Conference League games last season.

The Togolese international has made a good start to the current campaign, and is averaging one goal a game, netting two goals in two games for FC Cincinnati in all competitions.
After proving himself in Belgium, the Europa Conference League, and the MLS, Denkey is now ready to prove himself in England, and Middlesbrough should certainly pursue a move in the summer transfer window.
