Mayor Bass has ordered that more police officers be employed after the outbreak of burglaries in Sigodini

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has ordered police to increase patrols along Ventura Boulevard after a spate of residential burglaries in the San Fernando Valley.
The police reported that criminals break into six houses in seven days in Sigodini and the surrounding areas; no links were found between them. In another incident about a week ago, a resident of Hollywood Hills suffered minor injuries when he was beaten up by robbers after the robbers were found in the house.
Then Friday morning, police said they arrested a man in the Hollywood Hills at the home of actor Dylan Sprouse, best known for his role on the Disney Channel sitcom “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody” in the mid-2000s, and his wife, Victoria’s Secret model Barbara Palvin.
Sprouse grabbed a man on his lawn near his home after his wife spotted him, sources familiar with the incident told The Times. The police told The Times newspaper that the man was taken into custody with outstanding warrants, and the suspect did not come to the couple’s house, he only entered the house. No injuries were reported, police said.

Of the six reported crimes, four occurred within two miles of Ventura Boulevard. One was about thirty and a half kilometers away from the underground, and the other was eight miles away.
As part of Bass’ order, the Los Angeles Police Department is also sending more patrol cars to high-visibility areas; using mobile phone number plates in high-risk areas for burglary; using air support to conduct patrols; holding weekly burglary meetings with detectives; and working with special agencies such as the Robbery Homicide Division and the Commercial Crimes Division to “investigate high-value burglaries,” the mayor’s office said.
“I have directed the LAPD to deploy resources on Ventura Boulevard and continue to make this area a priority in holding these criminals accountable,” Bass said in a statement. “Citizens deserve to feel safe in their communities, especially in their own homes, and we will continue to deploy the necessary resources to keep people safe.”
The first of six burglaries was reported the night of April 11 in Sherman Oaks, in the 13000 block of Davana Terrace, about a block away from Ventura Boulevard. Police received a call over the radio about a burglary that had occurred the day before, but the suspects were gone when they arrived. Police did not release information about what the robbers stole, but said one of the robbers was wearing all black clothing.
The next day, police were called to a Hollywood Hills home in the 7100 block of Macapa Drive, where a resident entered the home around 9:30 p.m. and found multiple burglars inside. The burglars attacked the resident, who suffered minor injuries, said LAPD Chief Charles Miller. The criminals took many things and fled in a gray Hyundai; they were wearing gray hoodies and black pants.
On Tuesday, police responded to a home in Valley Village, in the 11700 block of Hesby Street, around 8:30 p.m. The burglars had already left by the time police arrived, Miller said.
Less than an hour later, police were called to a home in Valley Glen, in the 12700 block of Hatteras Street, about a mile and a half away. The burglars appeared to have left when the police arrived.
On Wednesday, police responded to a home in Valley Glen, in the 6800 block of Vanscoy Avenue, where two people wearing gray clothing had been burglarized. The police were called around 9:30 p.m., but the burglars had fled.
Then on Thursday in Granada Hills, about nine kilometers to the northwest, there was a report of three men, wearing masks and black clothes, breaking into a house in the 11900 block of Wood Ranch Road. The men left before the police arrived, without stealing anything, Miller said.
A burglary shook San Fernando Valley residents last year.
Some residents last summer said they were scared and angry after “American Idol” music director Robin Kaye, 70, and her rock musician husband, Tom DeLuca, also 70, were killed in their Encino home. Raymond Boodarian, 23, was charged with murder and burglary.
Police say the couple were returning to their $4.5-million home when they found Boodarian. Police say the suspect shot the couple multiple times. Los Angeles police did not find their bodies until four days later, when officers were sent to the home for a welfare check.
Police say the murders of Kaye and DeLuca last year appear to have been random. Although the couple’s home was well secured, the suspect managed to enter through the unlocked door.
The Hayvenhurst Avenue home of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Teddi Mellencamp was also attacked in July by three assailants who jumped a fence and entered the property.
In August, Los Angeles officials announced the arrest of members of a South LA gang accused of burglarizing nearly 100 homes and businesses, mostly on the city’s Westside.
Those arrested are believed to be part of a group calling itself the “Rich Rollin’ Burglary Crew,” which specializes in seizing high-end jewelry, purses and guns, LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said last year. Expensive watches and luxury wallets and suitcases were also targeted, he said.
At a meeting last summer with the Sherman Oaks Homeowners Assn., McDonnell said there are two major groups targeting homes in the Encino area: South American workers — whose members come on 90-day visas — and South Los Angeles.
Some South LA workers may target homes based on what residents show on social media, he warned.
“He shows off Rolexes, luxury bags, luxury cars, these kinds of things. He makes himself a target,” he said at the meeting.
Burglars may follow people from high-end restaurants to see what kind of car they have. Burglars may place small cameras outside the house in a flower bed to monitor residents’ movements, he said.
Times staff writers Salvador Hernandez, Cierra Morgan, Dakota Smith, Emily St. Martin and Richard Winton contributed to this report.
