Liverpool are planning a £90m bid to sign the Premier League star

Liverpool have run for years with diligence and intelligence in the transfer market, always one step ahead of their rivals. It has been paid. Over the last ten years, the Reds have won the Champions League, two Premier League titles, and many other trophies besides.

But we feel a long way from that exciting level of success at the moment, with Arne Slot and his side in the trenches after a poor post-title year.

How to move forward? Well, FSG believes that change is the key. Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson are both leaving this summer, and the latest news has emerged regarding Iraima Konate’s future.

The French defender appears to have played his last game for the Merseysiders, and is set to leave when his contract expires in one month. It is clear that he needs to be replaced.

Liverpool are plotting a move to replace Konate

Liverpool have signed Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes in a £60m deal. He arrives this summer, billed as a “top-five prospect in the world” by analyst Ben Mattinson.

Last weekend, Virgil van Dijk sat, dejected, staring at the Anfield crowd. It was a difficult season, and he carried a lot of responsibility, speaking repeatedly to the media and trying to make sense of Liverpool’s dramatic decline.

Jacquet is a talented centre-back, but Liverpool need more, and sporting director Richard Hughes is leading the charge, planning to sign one of the Premier League’s best defenders.

According to Sports Boom, Liverpool are considering a bid for Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven, who is keen on a move away from north London after helping his side avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Van de Ven, 25, is valued at £90m, and it should go without saying that Spurs will play hardball in their pursuit of their star player.

Why Van de Ven will be Liverpool’s dream replacement for Konate

If you think Liverpool have had a bad season, a penny for Tottenham’s thoughts. Of course, it’s all relative, and the fact that the Reds have flirted with Europa League football is too bad.

But Van de Ven has the quality to make a real difference to the Slot team, having been described as a “monster” by football journalist Elliot Jackson for his athleticism and physicality at the back.

It’s rare that the Netherlands international has the ability to combine defense with finesse and tenacity that doesn’t match defensive principles. This is definitely a swinging wing on a muscular 6 foot 4 body.

Konate has been a rock in Liverpool’s defense over the past five years, but rocks can be broken, and he has struggled throughout the 2025/26 season, which is the cause of his club’s decline. Mistakes have been rife, and he has lost the confidence that helped Liverpool win the Premier League title last year.

Van de Ven has obviously not been perfect, but he has been unfortunate in that he has been stuck at the heart of Spurs’ dramatic decline.

He is still bright. Tottenham’s defense may have struggled over the last few years, but it is interesting that Van de Ven and Cristian Romero have emerged as the core, front men. Those who are willing to dig have pulled their stick from disaster. Liverpool can do that, because Van Dijk is getting old and Konate is leaving – the French star has struggled this year anyway.

Van de Ven is the real deal, and if Liverpool can correct their imbalance under Slot, they can thrive with the Dutchman at the heart of their defence, a perfect combination with Van Dijk, the man his country inspires.
