Leaked footage of an ESPN analyst’s arm being amputated raises uncomfortable questions about GoFundMe

ESPN analyst Matt Miller’s new dash cam video of the car accident last month that resulted in his arm being amputated has raised more questions than answers.

Miller, who covers the NFL Draft for ESPN, was involved in a life-threatening car accident last month in Missouri. Details of the crash were scarce, but we do know that Miller suffered serious injuries, some of which resulted in the amputation of an arm.

The ESPN analyst announced last week that he is stepping down from the company to focus on his recovery, which has made headlines given the turmoil surrounding him since the accident.

In the weeks since the accident, Miller has been accused by a number of fans of suspicious dealings in his football teams. The Missouri Attorney General opened an investigation into him earlier this month, and ESPN placed him on leave last weekend.

While sources told OutKick that Miller’s leave is contingent on his health, they also said questions about the ongoing social media conversation and the AG’s report will be answered in due course. Until then, he is expected to remain on leave.

As for the video of the crash … obtained by the California Post on Tuesday, it shows Miller’s Ford Bronco going over a double yellow line on a two-lane road into an oncoming truck. The semi appeared to leave the road, but both vehicles collided.

The incident happened around 3:50 pm on June 17 on the road in Jasper County.

ESPN analyst Matt Miller is coming under scrutiny after a Reddit thread

At the time of the accident, a Reddit thread exploded with many fans accusing Miller of questionable handling of his football games.

According to the popular football site “Sleeper,” Miller was the commissioner of 91 leagues last season alone.

A lot of fans who had played in the league organized by Miller came, and they had the same story.

Miller is said to start the league. He was going to advertise this unit. He would say that part of the money received from this unit will go to a certain organization.

And then, by most accounts, he’d be pretty quiet after the league started and after the league ended, with players in said league going months without pay … if they got it.

After the June 17 crash, a GoFundMe was started by Miller, and promoted by Miller through his X account. The original goal was $10,000. It was then increased to $55,000 once that goal was hit.

Several fans have confirmed to the Awful Announcing outlet that they have received a delayed payment from Miller after his crash and the resulting GoFundMe, which was temporarily suspended at $51,000 after the AG opened an investigation on July 2.

“As a result of the accident, I sustained significant injuries, including multiple fractures and broken ribs. I also had my left arm amputated in a life-saving manner,” Miller wrote on X after his crash before finally speaking out, and linking to, the GoFundMe campaign that created it for him.

Matt Miller’s latest post has one major difference

The Reddit thread, and the resulting outrage on social media, came to a head earlier this month when the Missouri AG got involved.

“The Missouri Attorney General’s Office is now soliciting complaints directly from anyone with relevant information, including those who are not Missouri residents,” Awful Announcing wrote on July 2. “A consumer complaint can be filed online or by phone through the Consumer Protection team at 800-392-8222.”

Miller, who remains in the hospital, has yet to comment on any of this. However, that does not mean that he is not paying attention.

Last weekend, the longtime draft analyst posted that he was leaving ESPN to recover, while placing restrictions on who could comment on his post.

“A quick update: The surgery to remove my left arm was successful with the hope that I will eventually be replaced with a transplant. Similarly, the femur and patella surgery were also successful and the amazing surgical team was able to save my left leg,” he said. “In order to focus more on my healing and recovery, I am leaving permanently and will be taking a break from ESPN. Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts; please keep it in vain.”

“Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Get well soon, Matt,” wrote Adam Schefter.

“Get well soon. I still remember coming out of college how much you supported me,” added former Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas. “It was as if everything you said was true. I hope I can do the same for you, boss.”

Schefter and Thomas were two of only 14 people who responded to Miller’s latest post because it was protected by the “Only other accounts can respond” tag.

Every single answer was yes, which was a stark contrast to Miller’s previous reviews of his accident, which were open to the public. Those posts were filled with comments about the ongoing investigation, the viral Reddit thread, and the resulting GoFundMe.

GoFundMe, by the way, is now getting more attention with a new video.
