Le Bris could quickly replace Brobbey into Sunderland’s “one-man machine”.

The last time Sunderland won away from home in the Premier League was at the end of October, four months ago to the day.

Still, a strong record at home and a good start back in the top flight has ensured Regis Le Bris’s side have breathing room above the relegation zone, but there is no doubt that a continuation of poor form over the past few weeks could change the narrative for the newly promoted side.

But with a good run of games coming up in the Premier League, the Black Cats need to take advantage and cross that precious 40-point mark, and secure another season at the top.

However, hopes and aspirations to rise may be dashed by their injury luck, or lack thereof.

Last weekend’s defeat at the Stadium of Light against Fulham was disappointing, the epitome of a poor finish, and the loss was exacerbated by an injury to striker Brian Brobbey.

The latest on Brobbey’s fitness

Brobbey, 24, has been a nuisance for Sunderland this season,

Take, for example, the recent defeat against Liverpool at the Stadium of Light. Brobbey did not enjoy his finest hour, by any means, but he still accepted the fight against Iraima Konate, the final third became the battlefield.

That presence is not something every Premier League club can boast of. The Dutchman’s fitness is crucial to Le Bris’ attacking plan, and while the French manager has been reluctant to make any claims about the severity of his injury, he has admitted he is concerned.

Sunderland are unlikely to be in relegation trouble, but having lost four out of five in the top flight, there is no question that a change in form will settle Wearside, and ensure that the season’s hard work is immortal.

Brobbey has scored five goals in 22 Premier League appearances this season, but his performance says more about his value than his goal stats.

If he is out for a while, the northern team will have to play their cards right if they replace him.

Sunderland’s “machine” could replace Brobbey

Wilson Isidor was one of those who inspired Sunderland to get promoted last season. “A one-man machine”, says Sky Sports reporter Dougie Critchley, the Frenchman is powerful and a nuisance to defenders. Last season his role was key.

However, he has yet to enjoy a successful role in the Premier League, instead becoming part of Le Bris’ supporting cast. But the stage for success has been in the works for months now, and he has shown his strength as a strong leader in the Premier League.

Isidor has played second fiddle this season, but is still a capable striker with the power and ability to step into Brobbey’s shoes, should he be sidelined.

If we return to the upcoming games of Sunderland, there is no question that Le Bris will not be able to come up with points without a clash of points, with a tight knot of games to be untied in May, but nevertheless, Isidor can be the key, stand up and take the reins if his team needs him, as happened last year.

Having started 11 Premier League games, he has scored four goals and missed only two big chances. Sunderland’s poor form of late could be turned around by the form of Isidor, although his wide game has left something to be desired.

But that’s why he didn’t become number one. Still, Isidor has shown that he has what it takes. He created nine big chances in the Championship last term, being mobile and aggressive at number nine.

Le Bris has created something special at Sunderland. The team is greater than the sum of its parts, and while Isidor is not the best striker in England, he knows how to play in this system, and could be the perfect weapon to use in the next few programs, if Brobbey does not play.
