Kacey Musgraves says Miranda Lambert’s feud was real before she got the same thing

Kacey Musgraves knows a “high horse” when she sees one.
Musgraves, 37, reflected on her past as she moved to change the story of her troubled relationship with another popular country star – Miranda Lambert.
When asked about the reported feud with the “Bluebird” singer, Musgraves told Variety that their “beef” was “grass-fed, grade A.”

“I mean that’s the truth and that’s why I love this song, because it doesn’t come from somewhere that’s made up in the studio,” he said of their surprise performance on his new album “Middle of Nowhere”.
“We met after many years, honestly, not being friends.”
The “Golden Hour” singer was inspired to reach out after finding inspiration for the song on social media.

“I had this idea the other day when I saw her on Instagram, riding one of her horses, and I thought, ‘Well, I think we have two things in common: horses and divorce,'” Musgraves said.

“And I was like, ‘Wait, that’s a song.’ Then I took another step: ‘What if I write it with him? What if it’s a duet? F— it, I’ll get to it.'”
He added, “I hadn’t talked to him in years and I was like, ‘Hey, I’ve got this idea. If anybody can get it, it would be you. We’ve had our s— over the years, but this would be really funny.’ And he said, ‘I’m down.’

“I was like, ‘Look, I’m not trying to be your friend, but we should at least write this song.’ So it was a late addition, the last song added to the album, wrapped in January.”
Musgraves previously discussed their rumored feud in an interview with NPR where she recalled writing “Mama’s Broken Heart,” a song Lambert recorded for her 2013 album, “Four the Record.”

“It was going to be my first song and I really liked the song. I had been a staff writer for years at the time, writing for other people and finally I felt like I was collecting songs that sounded like me that I didn’t want to pass them on to someone else,” he said.
The “Deeper Well” singer said the song was pitched to Lambert without his “permission or knowledge,” and it quickly became a “tricky situation.”

“He ended up liking this song and he really wanted it. And I had other writers that I considered,” he said.

The queens of country music collaborated on “Horses and Divorces” from Musgraves’ sixth studio album, which is set for release on May 1.
