Are the Marchenko trade rumors being blown out of proportion?
Anthony Di Marco of the Daily Faceoff joined TSN Radio in Montreal and was asked why there is so much trade speculation surrounding Kirill Marchenko and the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Broadcaster: “It’s surprising because we know about free companies, trade, and this. Just this weekend, it’s like, why is my social media spreading these (Kirill) Marchenko rumors again?
Anthony Di Marco: “This summer feels a little different in the sense, and listen, like we’re in the 1,000 dog days of summer. But it feels a little different in the way, like, hmmm, like the ticket keeps coming out here and there, and look, the Columbus Blue Jackets. Every decent player seems to want out at one point or another.
Marchenko, I believe, has been linked to the Montreal Canadiens in the past. Obviously, playing on the second line next to his countryman Ivan Demidov will make a lot of sense. But I mean, I think this time of year things get hit a little bit because we hockey nuts are starved for hockey content in any form.”
Nothing will happen to Marchenko
Aaron Portzline of The Athletic joined the Sirius XM NHL Network Radio Power Play on Monday afternoon and was asked about the Kirill Marchenko trade rumors and whether anything is imminent.

A trade of Kirill Marchenko could happen soon
Announcer: “One name, though, that hasn’t really caught on yet, Aaron, is Kirill Marchenko. He’s still in the final year of his contract. He’s an RFA, actually, for next year, as it stands right now. And rumors are flying all over the place. You’ve got your finger on the heart. What’s going on here?”
Aaron Portzline: “Yes, yes, I was told and reported about that bad app called Twitter or X, whatever it is. Anyway, that these current rumors of this close trade are not true. So now things can change. The summer is still going. The right call can be made, and things will change.
But it’s my understanding that the Blue Jackets have not had trade talks involving Kirill Marchenko since that initial flurry in the draft where his name first came up. I’ve been told not to put any merit in the current trade rumors. But again, like (Zach) Werenski, this will be a situation to watch.
NHLRumors.com note: There are a lot of reports out there about Kirill Marchenko from the 2026 NHL Draft. GM Don Waddell said after his free agency press conference that Marchenko will be a part of the Blue Jackets next season. Again, you never want to contradict the reporting of others, but it seems like there are conflicting reports about whether a trade involving the Blue Jackets forward is imminent. It will be interesting to see how things move forward.
