I tested Baseus’ Incredibly Small Portable Wireless Charger. Is It The One You Should Get?

I’m always on the lookout for new pocket-friendly portable chargers that are small and lightweight, and Baseus’ recently released the 5,000-mAh. PicoGo Air AM71 it’s among the smallest and lightest power banks I’ve ever tested. Only 0.27 inches (6.9mm) thick and weighing 3.7 ounces (105 grams), it’s slightly thinner and lighter than Baseus’ predecessor. PicoGo Ultra-Slim Magnetic Power Bank again Nano MagSafe by Anker ($55) portable charger, both 0.3 inches thick and 5,000-mAh batteries.

But is PicoGo Air better than Anker? The short answer is: in some ways, yes; in several ways, no.

What makes the Pico Air AM71 better

  • Price: While the PicoGo Air AM71 lists for $70, it uses a code EHYGXRMR of log out of Amazon drop the price to $40, $15 less expensive than the Anker Nano MagSafe. The code is valid until July 31st.
  • Size and weight: The PicoGo Air AM71 is slightly thinner than the Nano MagSafe and feels lighter in your hand. However, they have the exact same steps.
  • Fast wired charging: The PicoGo Air AM71 offers a 22.5-watt fast charging cable, compared to the 20 watts of the Nano MagSafe.
  • A micro USB-C braided cable is included: You get a short, well-designed charging cable with a cord that looks sturdy.
  • NFC PowerSense feature: Once you’re logged into the Baseus app, hold the PicoGo Air AM71 up to your phone and tap to connect via short-range NFC to view battery status.

What makes it not so good

  • Wireless charging speed: PicoGo Air AM71 does not support Qi2 wireless charging and only charges at 7.5-watt speed in wireless charging mode. (Baseus’ earlier PicoGo Ultra-Slim Magnetic Power Bank offers 7.5-watt wireless charging speed.)
  • The battery is getting a little hot: Although the PicoGo Air AM71 has graphene and airgel insulation layers and is designed with a “thermal management system, which includes a low-profile heat dissipation design that increases the cooling surface by 50%,” according to the company, it gets a little warm, especially in wired charging mode. It stays cool in wireless charging mode, though.
  • The NFC PowerSense feature is ending: The battery monitoring feature only provides a summary of the battery status, not real-time data. It also didn’t show me the output power; input power only.
  • Magnet doesn’t seem to be that strong: The PicoGo Air AM71 is well attached to the back of mine iPhone 16 Pro again iPhone 17 (I tried it on a few cases), but I can say that Anker’s magnet seems to be stronger. There’s no built-in ring on Android devices — I tried it with the Google Pixel 9 — but some people like me already stick a metal ring on the back Android phone to emulate MagSafe.

Baseus PicoGo Air AM71 final results

The Baseus PicoGo Air AM71 is a very small, lightweight power bank that fits in a pocket and is easy to recommend, although it has a few drawbacks. I ended up sticking it on the back of my iPhone 16 Pro, but I used it more in wired mode (with a short cable included) than in wireless mode, as the phone charges much faster via cable. Note that although the 5,000-mAh battery should be able to fully charge the iPhone 16 Pro or iPhone 17, it can slow down due to heat loss and voltage conversion.

Pico Go Air AM71 offers less advantages than before PicoGo Ultra-Slim Magnetic Power Bankfeaturing a smaller design, faster cable charging and better cooling. But the older model sells for around $25.

PicoGo Air AM52

The Baseus PicoGo AM52 is almost twice the size and weight of the PicoGo AM71, but it’s smaller with a 10,000-mAh battery and an integrated USB-C cable for wireless charging.

For those looking for a more powerful charger, Baseus just released its PicoGo AM52 10,000-mAh battery (about $55), which is Qi2-certified and offers up to 25-watt wireless charging speeds and a built-in cable for up to 45 watts of wired charging. Note that you’ll only get short bursts of 25-watt wireless charging speeds as the battery drops to avoid overheating.

As long as you’re fine with the added size and weight — the PicoGo AM52 is nearly twice as thick as the PicoGo Air AM71 at 0.6 inches, and weighs twice as much at 6.95 ounces — it might be a better choice. Enter code UTYJDF7V at checkout on Amazon to drop its price to $43.

All that said, I prefer a very light and small power bank. But that’s just me.
