Harold Perrineau Teases ‘Despised’ City and What’s Next in ‘From’ Season 4

Warning: This article contains spoilers for season 3 of Four. You can get MGM Plus.
Three seasons of mystery and horror in , the popular MGM series from Frock continues to subject its unsuspecting citizens to unimaginable horrors. The town, known to fans as Fromville, has a sick way of teasing hope and taking it away, as the characters seem to escape or kill one of their monsters and end up back where they were.
Last season, town mayor and decision-maker Boyd Stevens, played by Harold Perrineau, watched as one of Fromville’s dead-looking creatures returned with his signature gruesome signature.
“I think it split his brain,” Perrineau told CNET. “I think when we start at the beginning of season 4, that’s where Boyd is. Like, I think his mind is shattered into pieces and he has to pick up those pieces or just lay down and give up because it’s so mysterious.”
Perrineau’s Boyd is a source of hope and strength for the people of Fromville, but monsters torment him constantly, and he revealed in season 3 that he is dealing with progressive Parkinson’s while stuck in the evil town. According to Perrineau, Boyd and the rest of the cast from From are in a “very difficult” fourth season.
“In Season 4, the city becomes more of a character, if that makes sense,” Perrineau said. “You actually realize, ‘Oh, this town is going backwards … and it’s very corrupt and brutal, and it’s doing despicable things, I mean.’
Starting as a character study
From the most-watched series in MGM Plus’ (formerly Epix) history, according to the network. Perrineau said that while From was billed as a horror series, “I think at the end of the day it’s an actor’s lesson.”
“It doesn’t surprise me that its people … find characters they identify with and think, ‘Oh my God, what would I do if I was in that situation?’ If I were Donna, would I just go for a drink?” Perrineau said. “I think that’s what we want in our entertainment, in the arts, and in all those kinds of things.”
Earlier this week, fans learned that From has a confirmed final season, with season 4 as a bonus. Departure will end with season 5, which is expected to start in 2027.
In a joint statement, executive producers John Griffin, Jeff Pinkner and Jack Bender said they will “get the chance to see our story through to the end. Which means questions will be answered. Answers will be asked. And there will be tears and fears in between.”

What happened at the end of season 3 of From?
Since the end of season 3 it has been a mystery. I’m reluctant to try to repeat this episode because it seems like we can say a few things with certainty about this show. But characters like Fatima, Jade and Tabitha seemed to put together important pieces of a never-ending dark puzzle.
In the last episode, we saw the monster from Fromville Smiley again (mostly — and horrifyingly — Fatima gave birth to the creature). Sara does a lot of damage to Elgin to get him to give up the information. Also, Jade and Tabitha seem to realize that they have been to Fromville before like other people, including Forville residents Miranda and Christopher. Both were in Fromville in the beginning, when they tried to save their daughter and failed. According to Fatima, the monsters in this city gave up their children because they were promised that they would live forever.
Am I misunderstanding or leaving out important details? Maybe. For example, Julie is a “journalist,” who will likely play a part in future events. But the fun is in trying to explain the From mystery.
I asked Perrineau what he could tease about The Man in Yellow, who appeared at the end of season 3 and shockingly ripped out the throat of the main character, Jim. He cryptically said that the Man in Yellow is “the most unexpected character you’ll see all year.”
