Former Fever player hits back at Sophie Cunningham for accusing her of covering up the Indiana abuse
The Indiana Fever are facing a new investigation after former player Brianna Turner accused the organization of firing a male employee over allegations of sexual harassment while on the team, scrutinizing Sophie Cunningham’s comments about trans athletes.
Turner, a player for the 2025 Fever and now with the Las Vegas Aces, made the allegations about X after Cunningham defended women’s sports against natural women during an ESPN interview.

Cunningham said she wants to “protect young girls in the locker room, or young girls in sports who don’t have to face natural men.”

Turner denied Cunningham’s claims, saying that organizations like Fever are a bigger threat to the sport than trans athletes. According to Turner, the Fever fired a male employee after allegations of sexual harassment but instructed the players not to discuss the matter publicly.

She has maddenedly defended transgender inclusion, pointing to former WNBA player Layshia Clarendon, who was born female before later identifying as transgender.
“There’s only been one player in the league so far. They’ve caused problems,” Turner wrote in X.

Turner compared that to the alleged behavior of the fired employee, adding, “That’s a problem. Sexism, misogyny, homophobia and all kinds of racism.”

The Indiana Fever released a statement Thursday in response to Turner’s claims.
“Protecting our players and staff and maintaining a respectful, quality work environment is our top priority,” Fever said.
“Our mission is to take concerns seriously, investigate them thoroughly, and act quickly when necessary to protect the people in our organization and ensure that everyone is treated professionally and respectfully.”
The panel concluded, “Fostering trust and safety in that process means we do not comment on personnel matters involving former employees.”
It is unclear whether the WNBA will review Turner’s allegations.

As of Thursday, the department had not announced the investigation or commented publicly.
