Fabrizio Romano’s exciting Arsenal transfer update is bad news for Trossard

As an estimated 1.5m Arsenal fans took to the streets of north London on Sunday afternoon, you wouldn’t have thought it was less than 24 hours before they lost in the Champions League final.

That night in Budapest may always be full of regrets for the penalty shootout but this season is still going strong and it’s truly magical.

It was the one where the Gunners ended a 22-year injury layoff, a campaign in which they finally established themselves as winners. It was the first Premier League title in over two decades. Not since Invincibles proved such a success in these parts.

With that in mind, there was always going to be a big party around the Emirates on Sunday. Whether so many fans were expected was another matter.

Fans pack all available episodes. Some have been seen on the roof of Lidl, while others have crowded the old Highbury station. That was quite the atmosphere.

Even Josh Kroenke was seen starting songs. The way he bought into this Arsenal club is amazing but now the onus is on him and his father, Stan, to provide Mikel Arteta with the money he deserves to take the club to the next level. Where does it all begin? Yes, this summer, of course.

Arsenal are beginning to consolidate their transfer plans

How do you promote Premier League title winners? However, considering that they actually have a few vacancies, there are some areas where the club can quickly target.

What happens to the center forward is always up in the air. Viktor Gyokeres may have scored 21 goals in all competitions, ending the season as top scorer, but his performance was criticized for much of his first year in London.

There is also anxiety in the stomach. Martin Zubimendi has had a poor run of the campaign, barely appearing when Myles Lewis-Skelly found him in the middle of the park.

David Ornstein confirmed on Saturday night that, as a result, the Gunners are looking to sign a new number 6 or a new number 8.

Eberechi Eze should be worried about his minutes at Arsenal.

However, that’s not all that’s on the way. Speaking on his YouTube channel on Sunday, Fabrizio Romano gave an update on Arsenal’s plans for next summer.

“I think it’s going to be a busy summer for Arsenal. I think there might be three or four signings, and that’s based on the outgoings. There’s going to be some movement going forward. A full-back is very important for Arsenal and a striker is possible. Midfield and right-back have been looking for opportunities since January.”

Romano continued: “They will invest significant money and will try to complete their squad in the best possible way. They see an opportunity with the teams making changes in the Premier League. Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea will have a new manager.”

Which Arsenal players can they sign?

It will come as no surprise to hear that Arsenal will be on the lookout for new signings in the summer transfer window but it is interesting nonetheless. With the exception of Noni Madueke last summer, it has been a position that Arteta has not neglected since becoming manager.

That has been useful for both Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli but now it is time for them to improve. There was a stage where they were a really important part of the project.

Martinelli scored 15 goals in 2022/23, finishing the term as Arsenal’s top scorer alongside Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard. However, since then his power has been waning. He scored one goal in the Premier League this season. As for Trossard, he may have scored an important goal at West Ham, but before that, the Belgian had not scored a goal in 25 consecutive games.

Whether Arsenal get money for both players or just one of them remains to be seen. Aged 31, Trossard is unlikely to fetch a big fee but Martinelli could be expected to bring a healthy return on the £6m low they signed him from Ituano in Brazil.

In any case, the addition of a new player on the wing and the left side in particular would be bad news for their pair.

So, who would they sign? Well, a few players have been linked. Anthony Gordon was one of the options but has since moved to Barcelona from Newcastle. Elsewhere PSG’s Bradley Barcola is an interesting proposition.

Last week’s reports revealed that the Gunners are in the race to sign the French player but they are facing competition from Liverpool for his signature.

Morgan Rogers is probably a dream target right now. It is reported that they have held talks with the player’s camp but at a price of £100m, it will not be an easy thing to do.

Whether or not he is worth £100m is up for debate but what won’t be up for debate is how powerful signing Rogers could be. He has scored 14 goals in recent seasons, notably winning the PFA Young Player of the Year award for 2024/25.

Compared to Trossard and Martinelli, he is more intelligent in his play and more flexible. The Aston Villa man is not only active on the left but can play as a no.10 or as a striker.

That kind of presence in the team is something Arteta would love; this would be a smart signing if done.
