England’s Jordan Henderson has been officially ruled out after an unexpected fall causing a fracture, having opted for surgery

Sunday night’s unfortunate accident has ended the 2026 World Cup for England midfielder Jordan Henderson.

Henderson, 36, spent the match sitting on the bench as England won 3-2, but quickly caught the eye after falling on a billboard, which left him in agony as England won.

Celebrations quickly turned to concern as medical personnel rushed to the field, administered oxygen, and carried Henderson off the field.

Before the accident, the Estadio Azteca hosted a classic World Cup match. Jude Bellingham sparked England with a first-half goal before Harry Kane added a penalty. Mexico responded through Julian Quinones and Raul Jimenez’s late penalty.

Henderson watched the game from the bench, receiving a yellow card in the 98th minute for his protest. The game was thrown into chaos when England defender Jarell Quansah was sent off with a straight red card, forcing the Three Lions to sit out the match.

While manager Thomas Tuchel and the team headed to Kansas City to prepare for the quarterfinal clash with Norway, Henderson remained in hospital in Mexico City. England next face Erling Haaland’s Norway on Saturday without the suspended Jarell Quansah.
