Dylan Larkin and Darnell Nurse

Dylan Larkin Requests a Trade

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman: Friedman, according to his sources, said the Detroit Red Wings captain has requested a trade. No one speaks. Larkin, or his agent Pat Brisson, or Red Wings Executive Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman.

Considering the free agent market was extremely thin on July 1st. Adding Larkin to the mix makes the offseason even bigger for these teams. Larkin has a full no-trade clause this season, so he has control over where he wants to go. Larkin got a taste of what playoff hockey is like, playing for Team USA in the Olympics and the Four Nations. His game was the best in those events.

Will Steve Yzerman Change The Detroit Red Wings Roster This Summer?

There will be many partners of his services. This was intense, considering Larkin and Yzerman’s speech last year. Not to mention Larkin hasn’t made the playoffs since his rookie year in 2016. It’s been 10 years since he missed the playoffs. So you want to change the place.

David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period: With all the speculation about where Larkin lands, the Vegas Golden Knights can’t be ruled out, given Larkin’s relationship with Jack Eichel. Can Vegas pull this off after the Stanley Cup Finals?

Irf Gaffar of the Fourth Season: There will be a lot of talk about the Minnesota Wild and Montreal Canadiens, and it makes sense. But the Los Angeles Kings need a center. Ken Holland drafted Dylan Larkin when he was Detroit’s GM.

How Brave Will the Detroit Red Wings Be in the Offseason?

ESPN’s Emily Kaplan: Kaplan writes that problems between Larkin and management go back to his last contract. That wasn’t done until before the 2023 trade deadline. Dylan Larkin currently makes $8.7 million per season, and his current deal runs through the 2030-31 season. A native of Michigan and raised in the American system, he wanted to play for the Red Wings after graduating from Michigan. The conflict between these two teams and the lack of success in the tournament has reached this point.

Darnell Nurse and the Edmonton Oilers Head for the Split

Sportsnet’s Mark Spector: Spector writes that defenseman Darnell Nurse and the Edmonton Oilers are headed for a split. Nurse still has one more year of his no-trade clause before moving up to the 10-team roster, where he can be dealt.

The goal is to move the Nurse into the next season, even though the Nurse holds all the cards. And this is a critical situation given that he was a long-term signing to keep Connor McDavid happy. Speaking of McDavid, the Oilers need cap space to make sure they can put together a team that can compete on the ice next season.

Dave Pagnotta’s Fourth Period: Pagnotta writes that this is a big summer for the Edmonton Oilers given the situation surrounding Connor McDavid. Nesi’s name has been around for a while and the Oilers are looking to move him at the deadline. Although he wants to stay in Edmonton, he is open to the right place. The San Jose Sharks have been linked with him.

Jim Biringer: You have to wonder about Darnell Nurse and his contract. Could he be a cap casaulty as the Edmonton Oilers look to fill the cap space.
