Democrats Face Terrible Congressional Baseball Game Deadline As MLB Precedes GOP Eyes

Faced with a six-game losing streak, and the GOP still waiting to find a big bat within its caucus, the tension is high for Democrats heading into the Congressional Baseball Game at Nationals Park.

Texas Rangers and New York Yankees great Mark Teixeira (R-Texas), who ranks 58th on the MLB home run leaderboard with 409 dingers, is expected to win a seat in Congress easily in November, allowing him to take a spot on the GOP list. Even as Wednesday’s game (7 p.m. ET; Fox Nation) approaches, Dems are already plotting how to take on Tex.

“We will go with him every time we get the chance,” said Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) told The Hill. He added, “We need to draft a major league baseball player to come and play for us.”

Teixeira, 46, says it’s been almost 10 years since he played baseball, but the juices are still flowing. “I’m happy to knock off the rust — and beat the Democrats on and off the field,” he wrote in X.

Based on previous performances, that shouldn’t be a problem for MAGA starter Greg Steube (Fla.-17). He finds great joy in being a LIBS owner on and off the baseball field. “I’ll be taking the mound for the Republicans at the annual Congressional Baseball game for charity. I’m looking forward to taking down the Democrats (again) and supporting a great cause!” wrote this week.

In 2021, when the Dems surrounded then-President Joe Biden in the dugout, Steube stomped the field at Nats Park. It was believed to be the first out of the park run in a Congressional baseball game in 40 years.

Too bad for the Dems.

Rep. Pat Harrigan (RN.C.), who played college baseball at Georgetown, released Steube in 2025 and easily shut down the Dems. “The Republicans have won the game five years in a row, and for some reason the Democrats keep showing up. See you tomorrow at Nationals Park as we go to six!” he wrote on Instagram.

With the addition of Teixeira on the horizon, Steube showing no signs of wear and tear on his elbow and Harrigan just 38 years old, the Dems are facing the reality that this losing streak could stretch into a full decade.

If there’s any good news for the Dems, it’s that the GOP blowout has paid off for charities in DC. The 2025 game raised $2.75 million and this week’s game is expected to break that record.
