Crysencio Summerville will choose between Aston Villa, Tottenham, Man Utd and Roma

Aston Villa are now planning to hijack AS Roma to sign West Ham United star Crysencio Summerville.

After their relegation from the Premier League, it was always going to be difficult for West Ham to catch Summerville, and they put themselves in the window shop and more by entertaining the Netherlands in the World Cup.

Despite Oranje being knocked out by Morocco in the round of 32, the defender had plenty of time to catch the eye, scoring two goals and providing two assists in four games.

The 24-year-old was following a strong 2025-26 campaign in the Premier League, where he tallied five goals and four assists in 31 appearances.

At the start of the season, West Ham Fan TV presenter Dan Lawless hailed the Netherlands star as “unbelievable” and a “special player”, but it appears his time at the London Stadium may be over.

Aston Villa are entering the race to sign Crysencio Summerville

According to a report from Sky Italia, Roma are ready to submit a €48m (£40m) bid for Summerville, who has the same agent as Aston Villa’s Lamare Bogarde, but now face competition for the Midlands outfit.

Villa are strongly interested in signing the Dutchman, who will make a decision on his next move soon.

Indeed, after returning from Miami on Thursday, the former Leeds United man will choose his next club, with Tottenham Hotspur also interested, while Manchester United have just opened formal negotiations.

Reporter Ben Jacobs added: “Spurs and Manchester United both love Summerville. Now it’s back in the World Cup, I think it can go out.

“West Ham’s view is that they do not see the need to sell financially, but there will be a player situation to consider and Summerville do not want to play in the Championship.”

Football FanCast verdict

Honesty

Since the news comes from the established news outlet Sky Italia, it is likely to be reliable. Villa could do with signing a new winger, with the signing of Evans Guessand not working, the 25-year-old was loaned out to Crystal Palace in January.

Finance

It remains to be seen whether West Ham are willing to accept Roma’s £40m offer. However, it has been suggested elsewhere that it would take £50m to prize Summerville away from his current tenants, which would be a huge sum for Villa, who are not out of the woods FFP-wise.

Understanding

Although the 2025-26 campaign wasn’t the best for West Ham overall, the striker has impressed on a personal level. His average of 1.9 dribbles per 90 Premier League runs placed him second in the team. However, the six-capped Netherlands star may need to improve his production, having missed seven big chances.

Impact

Given his actions at the World Cup, Summerville could be a statement signing for Villa. and he could challenge for John McGinn’s starting position on the right, or Emiliano Buendia’s place in Unai Emery’s right side.
