Celtic set to make £5m bid for ‘fierce’ Scottish Premiership star

Celtic are in the midst of another important summer in the transfer market after confirming Martin O’Neill as club manager on a permanent basis following last season’s domestic success.

The Hoops finished the 2025/26 campaign by lifting the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup titles.

O’Neill guided Celtic to two home runs during his third spell in charge before agreeing a one-year deal with an option for a further 12 months.

The experienced manager is now expected to oversee another busy recruitment process as Celtic prepare for Champions League football.

One name that continues to attract attention is Hibernian midfielder Miguel Chaiwa.

The Zambian has enjoyed his first campaign at Hibs after establishing himself as a key player at Easter Road, and his performances have put him firmly on Celtic’s radar.

The Scottish champions have been monitoring the midfielder for a while, and interest in Chaiwa continues to grow as the summer window continues.

Celtic are planning a £5m bid for Miguel Chaiwa

According to Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider, Celtic are now planning to test Hibs’ willingness with an offer.

The report says that the Hoops are willing to table a bid of around £5 million for the African.

However, Football Insider add that Celtic have no intention of matching his current price, with Hibs reportedly valuing Chaiwa at around £7 million.

That price is understood to be higher than Celtic are currently willing to pay.

Instead, the Scottish champions will be hoping talks can bring the two clubs closer together.

Why Celtic want to sign Miguel Chaiwa

The report claims the Hoops remain willing to explore a deal despite the valuation difference, and it’s easy to see why.

The former Young Boys player has won praise for his strength, defensive work and poise, and is also an international player for Zambia.

Celtic are said to be looking at him as a player who can strengthen their field in the domestic and European competitions, and Champions League football is expected to play an important role in the club’s recruitment plans this summer.

O’Neill is looking to build a squad that can compete in multiple competitions, and Chaiwa could be a key ingredient.

Praised for his ‘classy pace’, Chaiwa enjoyed a strong finish in 25/26 and established himself as one of the first names on David Gray’s team sheet.

Gray also praised the midfielder, calling him an ideal modern-day midfielder with bags of technical ability.

“He’s aggressive, he’s fast – the right modern-day midfielder,” Gray said last season.

“He’s really competitive, he’s got good energy and he’s good technically.”

Celtic are expected to continue to work in the transfer market as O’Neill prepares for his first full season back in charge.

The club have built a foundation by securing a long-term manager’s future after winning the league and cup last season, and are now looking to strengthen the squad.
