A Northern California driver has been arrested for DUI after police say he was found passed out and passed out behind the wheel—while his self-driving car continued to cruise through busy city streets.
The shocking incident happened just after 11 a.m. Wednesday in Vacaville, a city about 35 miles southwest of Sacramento, when a concerned member of the public called 911 to report a driver who appeared unconscious, according to the Vacaville Police Department.
The police say that the main problem is that the car was not stopped.
The authorities said that the car continued to roll in the middle of the traffic, making it dangerous for other drivers. The caller stayed on the line, providing real-time updates that helped officers track down the vehicle and bring it to a safe location near Elmira Road and Shasta Drive.
