Allyson Felix, the most decorated Olympian of all time, is looking for one more crack at adding medals to her illustrious career.
The 40-year-old told Time that he will return in hopes of running at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, which will be hosted in his hometown.
“A lot of us were told not to do something big, bold,” Felix said of his return. “You know, at this age, I should probably stay home and take care of my kids, doing all that. And just, why? Let’s turn it upside down. Let’s follow that thing. Let’s be vulnerable.”

Felix will be 42 when the Olympics begin in LA, but the winner of 11 Olympic medals, including seven golds, in five different sports has seen others over 40 do what many consider impossible. Tom Brady, LeBron James and Lindsey Vonn were mentioned by Felix during the interview.
He wants to break the age barrier, believing he can get one last shot at Olympic glory.

If Felix makes the Olympic team at age 42, he would become the first American athlete to reach the Games in his 40s. And considering his athletic abilities, it will be a surprise for the pool he will be competing against.
Sha’Carri Richardson, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, Gabby Thomas and others will be vying for spots on the Olympic team in 2028. But that won’t stop Felix, most of these women have probably been looking forward to him since he entered the Olympic arena in Athens in 2004.

Felix won silver that year in the 200 meter race. Then at the 2008 Games in Beijing, he won gold with the 4×400-meter relay team, while taking home silver in the 200-meter race.
Felix reached the height of his athletic prowess during the London Games, winning gold in the 200-meter, 4×100-meter relay and 4×400-meter relay. He was part of the team in Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo before announcing his retirement following the 2022 track season.
Since then, Felix was inducted into the US Olympic & Paralympic Hall of Fame in 2025, while serving as part of the International Athlete Committee of the Olympic Commission and the Board of Directors of the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee.
So, even though Felix is heavily involved in US sports, he wants to get back on track.

Felix returned to competition last year, but said he will begin training for his Olympic return in October.
If Felix doesn’t make the team in the end, he said he will be at the 2028 LA Games with his children to cheer on the Stars and Stripes.
