A trucking official is warning about untrained drivers endangering US highways

A trucking industry insider is warning of a deadly accident prevalent on US highways: untrained commercial truck drivers, many of whom are illegal immigrants and unable to read basic road signs.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Mike Kucharski, owner and vice president of Illinois-based JKC Trucking, issued a strong plea for more investigation into the problem, saying, “This is just crazy.”

“You wouldn’t put someone in the cockpit of a Boeing 737 flying from New York to California if they weren’t properly trained or couldn’t speak clearly or speak English. The same standard should apply to our highways,” said Kucharski.

“Every day truck drivers drive next to school buses, families and passengers just trying to get to work and get home safely,” he continued. “When unlicensed drivers slip through the cracks, it creates a danger in our motoring community, and you see there are accidents all the time.”

This week, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton launched an investigation into several commercial driving schools in the state for allegedly “putting Texans at risk by providing inadequate driver training to commercial drivers, including those who cannot speak English.”

A statement from Paxton’s office said the practices violated a state law requiring a basic understanding of English and a Texas law mandating adequate training to operate a commercial vehicle.

Paxton’s investigation comes months after US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced that his department had issued more than 550 notices of removal — decertification — to “fraudulent CDL training schools” across the country. The DOT statement said the schools were found to be in violation of federal safety standards.

Speaking from an industry insider, Kucharski said Duffy and Paxton are absolutely right to fight against rampant CDL school abuse. He pointed out the continuing incidents of deaths attributed to people holding improperly issued CDLs.

In one recent incident, Ohio officials revealed last week that Modou Ngom, the truck driver charged in a fire accident that killed a young family of three, fraudulently obtained an Ohio driver’s license, driver’s license and U.S. citizenship under another person.

A few months ago, in February, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Indiana arrested Bekzhan Beishekeev, an illegal illegal truck driver who was issued a commercial driver’s license by Pennsylvania. The Ministry of National Security said that Beishekeev allegedly killed four people on February 3, when he swerved in traffic and crashed into a van.

In Oregon, ICE recently arrested Indian illegal immigrant Rajinder Kumar, who is accused of hijacking a truck and his trailer, blocking both lanes of traffic, causing an accident that killed a newlywed couple.

There have been many other traffic fatalities involving illegal immigrants and improperly issued CDLs that have rocked the country in recent months.

“This is just madness that is happening,” he said, adding, “It must stop because if this continues, there will be more accidents, more people will perish.”

In addition to the danger placed on US citizens on the roads, Kucharski said the abuses were depressing the trucking industry, and by extension, caused disruptions in the US supply chain and impact on prices.

“This is an economic issue, not just a security issue,” he emphasized. “When unqualified drivers enter the road, it not only increases the risk, it increases the cost of insurance, which has already increased for all of us; our insurance continues to increase, cases, and ultimately prices for consumers.

Kucharski has previously called out illegal immigrants who hold local government licenses, sending a “shockwave” through the industry by driving out qualified, legal American drivers who demand higher wages.

He explained that illegal immigrant truck drivers can use a “loophole” in the system by obtaining illegal driver’s licenses in states such as California and New York. They were able to outbid legitimate trucking businesses by charging low prices, leading to the collapse of small American businesses in the industry.

“All our truckers are fighting for the same load, and it goes to the lowest bidder,” he continued. “When you have these drivers coming in who are homeless, they have family here, they’re homeless, they’re living in their truck … They’re saying, ‘Okay, look, the whole market is doing $2,000, we’re going to do it for $1,700.’ Therefore, small businesses take out trucks every day. “

Regarding CDL schools that authorize untrained drivers, Kucharski confirmed, saying, They’re putting bad actors in there, and they’re creating chaos in the trucking industry.”

“It’s a big black eye in the trucking industry,” he said.

“This investigation is really necessary,” he continued. “It’s about protecting the American public and restoring trust in the industry.”

He encouraged other lorry owners to “jump and join the fight” against abuse which he called “disgusting”.

“This driving school nightmare keeps me up at night,” he admitted. “Our job as owners is to educate everyone who is not familiar, so that we can come up with solutions together that will make the wheels explode and the US Economy boom.”
