Authorities say the truck was seen at the scene and is reported to have ended up traveling southbound on US Route 160 from Route HH in Christian County. US 160 runs south through southern Missouri and crosses into north-central Arkansas east of Harrison.

The vehicle is described as having a silver brushed cylinder head, rust roof, black body trim, black rear windows and a three-ball hitch. No description of the suspect has been released.

Officials urge anyone who sees the vehicle to stay away from it and call 911 immediately.

“A deputy in my area was shot and killed today. Erin and I are praying for his family. May justice be speedy,” said Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., in a statement sent to Fox News Digital.

Sen. Eric Schmitt, R-Mo., called the shooting “a great loss for Christian County.”

“As law enforcement works to bring the suspect to justice, my prayers are with his loved ones and those who worked side by side with him to keep Missouri safe,” Schmitt wrote in the X post.

Missouri State Attorney Jamie Ray Gragg also shared a message on Facebook following the incident.

“My heart goes out to the family of our deputy. While they understood that this job is dangerous, senseless actions like this are beyond comprehension,” Gragg wrote.

He asked the public to join him in praying for the family and relatives of the deputy, as well as the police to “work hard to find this person in his time of distress,” adding that he hopes that this situation ends peacefully “and no more blood is shed.”

Green Alerts are similar to Amber Alerts in that they are designed to notify the public immediately. However, a Blue Alert is issued when a suspect is believed to have seriously injured or killed a law enforcement officer and may pose a continuing threat.
