Is Claude down? Anthropic confirms the blackout.

Updated Wednesday, April 15 at 2:08 pm ET – A recent update to Claude’s status page confirmed that “This incident has been resolved.” An Anthropic spokesperson said the company appreciates users’ patience as it fixes the problem.
Previous updates have reported issues with Claude.ai, Clade Code, and the Claude API, with the previous status saying, “Claude.ai and Platform are down. Claude Code login does not work with Claude.ai.”
According to the Anthropic situation monitor, Claude AI experienced a “major outage” for 40 minutes and a “slight blackout” for 73 minutes. Anthropic reported that the service had an uptime of 98.79 percent over the past 90 days. Despite previously confirming a problem with Claude Cowork, that service has no issues reported today on Claude’s status page. Read more about this phenomenon on the Anthropic website.
Updated Wednesday, April 15 at 1:37 pm ET – In a statement sent to Mashable, an Anthropic spokesperson confirmed that Claude was experiencing a problem on Wednesday afternoon. The issues affected the Claude.ai desktop browser and the popular Anthropic Cowork and Claude Code services.
“Claude.ai and Cowork are currently down for many users and some users may have trouble accessing Claude Code. Our team is working to restore the service and we appreciate everyone’s understanding while we work on this,” the spokesperson said.

Claude, the popular AI chatbot from Anthropic, appeared to be experiencing a possible outage on Wednesday. Thousands of users reported trouble accessing Claude, with user error reports peaking around 10:30 a.m. ET, according to DownDetector.
(DownDetector and Mashable are both owned by the same company, Ziff Davis.)
As of 1:00 pm ET, user error reports were slowing down, although DownDetector is still reporting ongoing issues with Claude AI.
The majority of users (38 percent) reported problems with Claude Chat, while 29 percent reported problems with Claude Code and 25 percent with the Claude app.

Is Anthropic’s Claude Mythos a big surprise, or a real security threat? What do the experts say?
One Mashable editor couldn’t access Claude’s free desktop version, with an error message that read, “You’ve reached your Claude message limit. Please wait before trying again. For higher limits, check out our Pro plan.” This, despite not having sent any messages to Claude before. An additional pop-up says, “The service is temporarily busy. You can try again soon.”
Rather than actually shutting down Claude, access may be temporarily restricted to free users. Claude has seen the biggest growth so far in 2026. In March, amid a spat with the Pentagon and the Trump administration, an Anthropic spokesperson told Mashable that the company was signing up more than 1 million new users a day.
This is a developing story…
