Khvicha Kvaratskhelia gives Liverpool answer after contact with PSG star’s camp

Liverpool are lining up a search for Mohamed Salah’s successor in the wing, while the Reds have reportedly held talks with the target’s camp.

Liverpool are targeting Mohamed Salah’s replacement

Tuesday evening brought one of the saddest moments in Liverpool’s recent history.

Salah posted his farewell video on social media – measured, emotional, final. Nine years, 255 goals and four Golden Boots.

The man who transformed the club’s fortunes after arriving from Roma in 2017 has confirmed he will leave Anfield at the end of the season on a free transfer, possibly heading to the Saudi Pro League. It ended the chapter that describes the era.

What comes next is now Liverpool’s biggest concern – and the early signs suggest that Salah’s replacement will be more difficult than anyone at FSG expected.

The 33-year-old left his mark with 377 goals in 435 appearances for Liverpool, a return that no real signing could immediately match.

His decline this season has been remarkable, with some pundits suggesting his decline makes Liverpool look less than the right side for the big campaign.

Spurs are facing a battle to keep him this summer.

But even in Salah’s decline he has still produced more than any winger in the Premier League, and his departure gap is huge.

Liverpool moved quickly after Tuesday’s announcement to reveal their desired targets, but results have been uniformly disappointing so far.

Liverpool receives Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s response after discussions with his agents

TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey says FSG have now been pegged back by four separate goals before the summer transfer window opens, one of which is PSG winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Liverpool held talks with the 24-year-old’s representatives, but they got a clear answer – Kvaratskhelia wants to leave the Parc des Princes this summer.

It should be remembered that Kvaratskhelia only arrived at PSG in January 2025, making this his first full season in the French capital.

He settled in instantly, contributing 11 goals and seven assists to a forward line that included Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé, Desire Doue and Liverpool teammate Bradley Barcola.

The prospect of dismantling that team by selling one of its key components is not at all attractive to PSG.

Reports earlier this month suggested it would take a Premier League record £160m to spark talks for the Ligue 1 ‘star’ – a figure which underlines just how firmly the door is shut.

FSG must now shift focus to more accessible guidance.

RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande – 10 goals and seven assists in 26 Bundesliga games aged just 19 – is still leading the way, and Liverpool are reportedly in almost daily contact with his representatives, although Leipzig’s £87m fee is considered steep.

The club is expected to sign two young players this summer to replace Salah, it may beseveral long months of negotiations in Merseyside.
