Man Utd are now in a good position to sign Brentford defender Nathan Collins

With Harry Maguire set to sign a new deal at the club, Manchester United are now leading the race to sign the Premier League captain.
Man Utd are close to agreeing Maguire’s contract
Maguire’s revival has been unprecedented in the last 12 months, but Michael Carrick is proving that almost anyone can return to their best form under his guidance. The interim manager did the same with Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro, while also getting Benjamin Sesko firing on all cylinders.
Maguire and Mainoo have done enough to earn Thomas Tuchel’s England recall, rewarding their recent form at Old Trafford ahead of this summer’s World Cup.
The biggest question for Man United is about Maguire’s contract. Despite his recent resurgence, it looks like he’s on track to become a free agent at the end of the season before David Ornstein’s update.
According to a reporter from The Athletic, Man United are close to agreeing a new contract with the defender that will keep him at the club until at least 2027, with an option for one more year.
It’s a big push and Carrick had his say on the situation earlier this week, telling reporters: “Obviously there are ongoing discussions about what the squad will look like at the end of the season and what it looks like after that.
“Harry has done a great job for us. I think it’s pretty obvious to say that. He’s had a big impact on what we’ve done, so we’ll have to see.”
Man Utd are working on a big-money deal to make their best signing since Fernandes
Manchester United are now moving ahead with a blockbuster summer signing that will transform their stadium.
There was a time when losing Maguire wouldn’t have been such a problem, but now he’s a leader on and off the pitch – he’s playing an important role and he’s about to receive the award he deserves.
The Red Devils can now focus on finding the England international a partner and reports suggest that will form part of their summer shopping spree.
That shopping can still happen locally, too. United are already working on a big-money deal to sign Bruno Guimaraes and the Brazilian could yet be joined by another Premier League captain.
Man Utd are leading the race to sign Nathan Collins
As reported by TeamTalk, Man United are now in a good position to sign Nathan Collins from Brentford. Old Trafford are reported to believe that the defender is the best in the Premier League for his position and is now leading the race for his signature ahead of Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

Man United have identified the right profile if they want Collins to partner with Maguire. Dubbed “brilliant” by Brentford boss Keith Andrews, the towering defender isn’t a world away from Maguire in the air and gets his possessions at even better value – covering his weaknesses. As a duo, they can match each other.
Furthermore, the Brentford man has also enjoyed similar success in management. In almost every metric, he has been comparable to Maguire this season.
At 24, the Brentford captain is nearing the peak of his powers and will be completing a move to Old Trafford at the right time. Whether Man United turn their interest into a formal bid remains to be seen, however.
