Rangers chiefs to force David Storch to sell Sheffield Wednesday star Danny Rohl

Rangers are planning a move for the Sheffield Wednesday star this summer, which could be a problem for new owner David Storch.

Gers are looking to raid Rohl’s old club

It was a tense campaign on Wednesday, as will be confirmed by their relegation from the Championship in February, having been stripped of 18 points earlier this season.

There may be light at the end of the tunnel, however, when a consortium led by Storch emerges as the preferred buyer for the Owls, which have been looking for a new owner since they were put into administration in October.

In a post on X a few days ago, Storch wrote: “I am happy that we cleared a big hurdle yesterday as we move towards our goal of taking ownership of this amazing team at the end of the season.

“Thank you to the EFL and management for the productive discussions this past week. I want you all to know that my team and I are working hard, and we are fully committed to doing everything we can to fight for the best result for Sheffield Wednesday and our amazing fans.”

New preferred tenders involved in major deals…

A sale is imminent, but the Championship side’s problems don’t end there, as they face being stripped of 15 points from League One next season, if the deal goes through.

With Sheffield Wednesday set to begin the next campaign in such dire straits, it could be difficult to keep hold of their star players this summer, and Rangers boss Danny Rohl is now eyeing a raid for his former club.

“Awesome” Sheffield Wednesday star in line for a move to Ibrox

According to a report from Sports Boom, Rangers are determined to force Storch into an immediate sale, with Rohl hoping he can convince goalkeeper Pierce Charles to move to Ibrox.

Given Wednesday’s financial situation, the Scottish Premiership side believe a cut price is possible, especially as Charles will only have one year left on his contract come the summer, leaving them with no choice but to acquire one of their last remaining assets.

Rohl is said to greatly admire this goalkeeper who has been called a “miracle” by Anthony Elanga of Newcastle United.

Although still a very young 20-year-old, the Northern Irishman has been Wednesday’s first-choice goalkeeper whenever fit this season, and has established himself as the first choice for his national team between the sticks.

Northern Ireland crashed out of the World Cup in the semi-finals, losing 2-0 against Italy, but the youngster can’t be blamed, as he made five saves, including three inside the box, while impressing with his passing.

Considering Jack Butland is now 33 years old, and the Englishman’s contract expires next summer, Rangers could do with bringing in a long-term replacement, and Charles fits the bill.
