Tottenham have the chance to sign “one of the best defenders in today’s football”
Tottenham have been offered the chance to sign long-term target Alessandro Bastoni, according to a report from TalkSPORT, with the Italian being urged to leave Serie A after losing his side to their World Cup defeat to Bosnia.
Bastoni was sent off with a red card as Italy exited the World Cup
Italy failed to qualify for a third consecutive World Cup after Bastoni’s red card proved costly in their 4-1 penalty shoot-out loss to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Azzurri substitutes Pio Esposito and Bryan Cristante missed 12 yards in Zenica, allowing Esmir Bajraktarevic to convert the hosts’ winner following a 1-1 draw after extra time.
Having failed to reach Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022, four-time champions Italy are the first winners to miss out on three consecutive World Cups.
Gennaro Gattuso’s side were about to go ahead when Moise Kean capitalized on a mistake by Bosnian goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj to claim the opener in the 15th minute. But, following Bastoni’s dismissal in the 41st minute for fouling Amar Memic, substitute Haris Tabakovic equalized in the 79th minute.
Gattuso has left his role in the national team, and Bosnia will enter Group B alongside Canada, Qatar and Switzerland.
De Zerbi must sell the signatures of Nuno who “never wanted to be at Spurs”
There is a feeling that Spurs need to rip it up and start from scratch under Roberto De Zerbi.
Bastoni told to leave Serie A amid links to Tottenham
According to TalkSPORT, Tottenham’s chance to secure a deal with Bastogne may have fallen into their laps, as long as they avoid relegation.
The 26-year-old had already come under scrutiny this year for his behavior in the match between Inter and Juventus, where he celebrated diving to take out Juve’s Pierre Kalulu, and he was booed by fans in his next game.
Now, former Italy and Inter star, Giuseppe Bergomi has told the defender to leave the country for his own good.
“The mistake was good, what has been holding him for a month and a half? They told him everything.
“Now this boy, for his own good, will have to leave Italy and we are losing an amazing talent, one of the best defenders in modern football, he also has his strengths and weaknesses.
“I understand he made a mistake, but enough is enough, guys. I’m very sorry, even Inter, but I think for his own good he will have to find a place abroad, see what I’m saying.”
TalkSPORT name Tottenham among the players should a deal happen, with the Lilywhites known to be long-term fans of the defender thanks to the influence of former director Fabio Paratici.

Bastoni is regarded as one of the best defenders in the world and is comfortable playing behind three or four players, so he would be a great weapon for Roberto De Zerbi to have in his arsenal ahead of his first full campaign as Spurs manager next season.
