Everton are plotting a move for Edon Zhegrova as Juventus make a ruthless move

Everton have now shifted their focus to signing the Juventus striker, who is certain to leave the Italian giants come the summer.

Everton are planning a move to sign the Juventus striker

It’s a big summer for Everton. They showed great ambition last summer when they swooped in for the likes of Thierno Barry and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and now they can close the gap on European spots with another big spend.

David Moyes has never been afraid to acknowledge Everton’s European ambitions this season, either. Although they are still three points behind Brentford and eight behind their rivals, Liverpool, the veteran told reporters that the Toffees are not ready to give up.

“We are not ready to give up our desire to go to Europe. We will try to continue, why not?

“I could easily come here and say, ‘Well, we’ve had a comfortable season so let’s forget about it’, but it’s the opposite. We’re definitely trying to keep pushing.”

Moyes deserves a lot of credit for the way he has taken the Toffees from bottom-half frustration to European contention since returning to the club, and recent transfer rumors suggest he will be backed by Friedkin in the summer.

To that end, the likes of John Stones have been threatening to steal the headlines as of late. The Manchester City defender is set to become a free agent at the end of the season and is reportedly set to return to Everton.

The England international left for the Etihad in 2016 for a whopping £47m and can now come full circle by returning to Merseyside as a serial winner.

He’s not the only one on the Toffees’ radar, though. Friedkin also focused on attacking targets, including Juventus winger Edon Zhegrova.

According to reports in Italy, as reported by Sports Witness, Everton are planning a move to sign Zhegrova, who could leave Juventus this summer after one year in Turin, with the English club where he could be.

Everton could use Juventus’ brutality

It has been a difficult first season for Zhegrova, and it could be his last for Juventus. The midfielder has yet to score against the Italian giants and his struggle was evident against Galatasaray, as the Serie A giants were beaten in extra time and missed a good chance.

After such a disappointing run, there aren’t many players who need a fresh start sooner than Zhegrova and that’s where Everton can come in.

The Toffees have been a resurgent side this season, with Jack Grealish impressing on loan before a season-ending injury and Dewsbury-Hall regaining his best form.

It is worth noting that, prior to his current spell at Juventus, the 26-year-old impressed at Lille. Last season, Zhegrova scored eight goals in France to advance to Turin.

The quality is still there if Everton can unlock it. Whether the Toffees decide to go ahead and make their interest official remains to be seen, however.
