Everton are keen to sign the £427k-p/w striker who David Moyes absolutely loves

Everton have a strong desire to sign Al-Ahli star Ivan Toney this summer, and the striker is now keen on a return to the Premier League.

What David Moyes said about Ivan Toney

Toney’s move to Saudi Arabia came after scoring goals in four seasons with Brentford, and the England striker has gone on to light up the Saudi Pro League.

During his time with the Bees, the striker earned praise from David Moyes, who was impressed with his fine finishing, saying: “He’s got a lot of good things as a footballer. There’s obviously a coolness in his finishing and the way he plays, and he’s got some things in him,” Moyes told the media last year.

“But also, importantly, he has a really smart football mind at times.”

However, the 30-year-old has struggled to fit into Thomas Tuchel’s plans in England since moving to Saudi Arabia, and according to a report from Football Insider, he is now keen to return to the Premier League.

Everton are strongly interested in signing Toney, as they want to bring in a proven Premier League striker, but a deal could be difficult to arrange, as Al-Ahli have no interest in letting him go, and remain contracted to the Saudi Arabian club until 2028.

The Toffees’ interest perhaps stems from the fact that the current strikers have not set the world on fire in the Premier League this season.

Beto

Beto has improved since the start of the year, scoring four goals in his last five Premier League games, but found the net once before the start of January, in what has been an inconsistent campaign.

Thierno Barry

It would be fair to expect a lot from Thierno Barry, following his arrival from Villarreal last summer, as the 23-year-old ranks among the Toffees’ most expensive signings.

However, the Frenchman has scored fewer goals than Beto in the Premier League, netting just six times, suggesting Moyes may need to bring in an upgrade in the summer.

Ivan Toney’s salary at Al-Ahli

If money is to be a major motivating factor, Toney may find it difficult to consider leaving Al-Ahli, given that he earns more than £427,000 a week, making him the highest paid English player in the world.

However, at the age of 30, the former Brentford man may have plenty left to offer at the top level, and appears to have little chance of forcing his way into England under Tuchel.

Top-scorer, known as “unbelievable” Gabriel Sutton, has not played since playing briefly against Senegal in June 2025, despite his success in Saudi Arabia.
