The 54-year-old manager is now leading the charge for the Crystal Palace job

Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace could be fighting for a “brilliant” coach, who has been identified as one of the frontrunners to replace Oliver Glasner.

Palace want new manager Glasner will leave

Glasner was able to make a good signing before the international break, with his side winning 2-1 against AEK Larnaca, which booked their place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Conference League.

After the victory in Cyprus, the 51-year-old said: “I will go home to Austria, relax in the mountains at the weekend – and prepare for Fiorentina.

“I never do the second step before the first, because at that time it is not the best thing to do.

“We want the best result, but it’s not just in the Conference League – we’re in a very good position in the Premier League. We’re doing better and better, that’s why we’re looking forward to the two months we have to play.”

Although it has been a difficult campaign for Palace at times, dealing with the departure of Marc Guehi in the January transfer window, another historic season could still go ahead, with the first leg against Fiorentina coming up on April 9.

After Guehi’s exit, bringing in a new defender may be on the agenda this summer, at which point Steve Parish & co will have to appoint a new manager, as Glasner is set to leave, and they have now identified a new major target.

The “Smart” manager is now leading a contender to replace Glasner

According to Football Insider, Sean Dyche has emerged as the leading contender for the Crystal Palace job, with the 54-year-old being sacked by Nottingham Forest in February.

Tottenham now face danger in the race to sign Dyche, with the north Londoners recently in talks to replace interim manager Igor Tudor, who has won just one of his seven games in charge.

Hailed as “very intelligent” by Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Rob Edwards, the Englishman has a wealth of experience in the Premier League, winning 99 top-flight games between Forest, Everton and Burnley.

In the 2017-18 campaign, the former Burnley manager led the Clarets in Europe, with a respectable seventh-placed finish, suggesting he could have the pedigree to replace Glasner in the Crystal Palace dugout.

That said, the Kettering-born manager has spent much of his career struggling near the bottom of the Premier League table, leading Everton to safety on the final day of the 2022-23 campaign, before being sacked in January 2025, with the Toffees one point above the bottom three.

Therefore, Dyche may not be the most exciting appointment for Crystal Palace, and now they are thinking of taking another shocking approach…
