Liverpool are considering a move for Andy Robertson to replace Santos’ Vinicius Lira

Andy Robertson is out of contract at the end of the campaign, and Liverpool are now looking for a young replacement.

Robertson is in no rush to extend his Liverpool contract

Pete O’Rourke has suggested that Robertson’s future is in his own hands, and the defender will not rush to make a decision on his future until he is absolutely certain.

The transfer reporter said: “It seems that Robertson and Liverpool are determined to make a decision at the end of the season and will not rush into anything.

“It will be Robertson’s decision what he wants to do. I think if he wants to stay at Liverpool, a new contract will be on the table for him. If he wants to move on, Liverpool will not stand in his way.

“Robertson at this stage of his career probably still wants to play at the highest level so I’m sure there will be interest from a Premier League rival in signing Robertson.”

The 90-cap Scot will no doubt go down as a club legend, having won nine trophies during his time at Anfield, but has fallen short this season, failing to come off the bench in 12 Premier League games so far.

At the age of 32, the left-back must make a decision about whether he is happy to accept a reduced role, or would prefer to play regularly elsewhere, and Arne Slot’s side are now looking at potential players ahead of the summer.

Liverpool considering offloading Robertson for ‘best-in-class’ Brazilian

According to a Sports Witness exclusive, Liverpool are now considering a move for Santos defender Vinícius Lira, with scouts watching the 18-year-old in action for the past few months.

The young player is known for pushing forward and supporting the attack with passing runs, as well as his ability on the front foot, regularly providing goals and assists for the Brazilian team at youth level.

Scout Ben Mattinson backed up the star’s suggestions that he likes to push forward down the left, saying: “As LB’s go, Vinicius Lira is one of the best and balanced profiles in Brazil.

“Tall LB (187cm/6’2″) with great athleticism and power will explode LHS providing range and excellent, consistent delivery with good crossing versatility. The defense is solid and good timing and ability to stop crosses.”

The youngster has made 14 senior appearances for Santos, and was impressive in last month’s 2-1 win against Vasco da Gama, scoring five times and winning three of his four aerial contests.

Should Robertson move on this summer, Liverpool will definitely need to bring in a new full-back, and Lira is showing promising signs in Brazil, but with the defender having recently torn his ACL, which will keep him out until 2027, bringing in the Premier League star could be a smart move…
