A drone suspected of being attacked by pro-Iran forces attacked a major US diplomatic base in Baghdad on Tuesday, according to the Washington Post.

The newspaper said the strike hit the Baghdad Diplomatic Support Center, and no one was reported injured.

Six drones were fired at the compound, five of which were shot down.

The Post newspaper, citing a security official and a State Department alert, reported that another empty plane crashed near a guard tower and people at the facility were ordered to “go for cover.”

“Accountability is ongoing,” the warning said.

Iraq’s Ministry of Defense condemned the drone attack and missiles targeting the Martyr Muhammad Alaa Air Base and the Martyr Ali Fallah Air Base at X post but did not specifically mention the attack on the US facility or Iran.

“In response to these sinful abuses, the Ministry wishes to clarify and confirm the following facts: These air bases are fully sovereign and Iraqi, completely under the authority of the state and law, and there is no representation of any foreign forces in them under any designation,” wrote the government account.

A security official told The Washington Post that the attack may have been carried out by forces affiliated with the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an independent group of Shiite armed groups aligned with Iran that it has blamed for attacks on US troops in the region.
